YOUR CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the books for MEDA’s diverse lines of business, which include affordable housing development, small business lending, workforce development, and financial capability services. The Staff Accountant will support the finance team members to ensure that MEDA has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits. This position requires a deep knowledge of accounting, understanding of accounts receivable processing, and intercompany transactions. This is a hybrid position requiring 4 days in the office and 1 day working from home.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Enter cash receipts related to all deposits, including grant funds, donations, refunds, loan payments & miscellaneous deposits
• Billing support for the grants team, including setting up receivables, pulling payroll information and expense reports, etc.
• Prepare and maintain sub-ledgers and schedules to reconcile GL accounts
• Complete Balance Sheet reconciliations, including Bank reconciliations for multiple accounts
• Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries as required.
• Ensure every transaction has supporting documentation and is audit-ready
• Assist in the preparation of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Assist in the preparation of all account schedules and other requests from the external auditors for the annual financial, compliance and other audits
• Prepare, calculate, track and reconcile all amortizations/prepaid accounts, schedules and requirements on an ongoing basis
• Monitor Concur extracts from troubleshooting to successfully import data to the ERP system
• Proactively identify and implement process, workflow and system improvements and efficiencies to standardize, automate and streamline operations
• Perform ad-hoc duties as requested
YOUR KEYS TO SUCCESS
To perform successfully in this role, you will need to leverage these key qualifications:
•BA/BS in Accounting/Finance or related field required
• A minimum of 2 years of direct accounting experience
• Keen analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills, which allow for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting
• Strong business acumen and logical problem solver
• Nonprofit Accounting experience helpful
• MIP-Abila and ERP software experience highly desirable.
• Intermediate excel skills (pivot tables, formulas & functions)
• Excellent communication skills; be comfortable interacting with all staff levels
• Ability to work with little management or guidance on a daily basis. Self-motivating and self-guided.
• Experience with affordable housing highly desirable.
• Have a passion for MEDA’s mission and a strong desire to impact a dynamic nonprofit organization.
• Spanish language a plus
• This is not a fully remote position
