Job Summary:
The Mission First Early Learning Center is seeking a dedicated and organized Child Nutrition Director to oversee the school’s food service program. This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the school kitchen, managing food procurement, overseeing meal claims, and ensuring compliance with state and federal child nutrition guidelines. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to providing healthy and nutritious meals for students.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Ordering & Procurement
- Plan and order food and supplies while managing inventory to minimize waste and stay within budget.
- Establish relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective food procurement.
- Monitor food costs and maintain accurate purchasing records.
Kitchen Management & Operations
- Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring meals are prepared in accordance with nutritional guidelines and food safety standards.
- Supervise kitchen staff, including scheduling, training, and performance management.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety, ensuring compliance with health regulations.
Meal Claims & Compliance
- Ensure proper meal documentation and submission of meal claims for reimbursement under federal and state programs.
- Stay up to date with USDA and Mississippi Department of Education nutrition guidelines and implement any required program changes.
- Conduct regular audits of meal records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Program Administration & Leadership
- Develop and implement menus that meet nutritional standards while considering student preferences.
- Work closely with school administration to align meal programs with the needs of students and families.
- Educate staff and students about nutrition and wellness initiatives.
- Participate in required training sessions and professional development.
Qualifications & Skills:
- ServSafe Certification Required
- Child Nutrition Certification Required
- Experience in food service management, school nutrition, or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Programs, meal claim procedures, and state regulations.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage a team.
- Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and maintain compliance with food safety regulations.
- Proficiency in record-keeping and budget management.
