Job Summary and Qualifications
Role Summary: The Community CaraMedic is a specialized Mobile Integrated Healthcare Provider that operates in an expanded role to provide an array of routine and advanced health services to underserved and/or medically fragile patient populations. CaraMedics are responsible for provision of care in the patient's home setting by using assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation techniques in accordance with the policies, protocols and procedures of department. They will demonstrate sensitivity to needs of culturally diverse populations by providing appropriate sound judgement in a professional manner in order to coordinate care, to remove barriers in accessing and appropriately utilizing health services and supervise patient care. The CaraMedic serves as a member of a multi-disciplinary care team comprised of Physicians, PA’s, Nurses, Pharmacists, Case managers, Social Workers, Respiratory Therapists and other specialists. In this role the CaraMedic works collaboratively with the patient and these stakeholders to assist in identifying and addressing social determinant of health gaps in the patient’s care, access to care, transitions of care, patient safety and to enhance their overall resiliency and quality of life. The CaraMedic Performs a variety advanced services including advanced patient assessment and screening, medication review, venipuncture involved in the collection of blood specimens for laboratory analysis, and medication/fluid administration. They may also perform wound management and pulmonary function testing along with initiating telehealth consults. The CaraMedic ensures proper patient care by prioritizing physician orders and through a robust performance improvement process that allows the CaraMedic Team to adapt to ever-changing patient needs. The CaraMedic serves as an advocate and educator for the patients, their families and for the community in ensuring the highest possible health equity.
What qualifications you will need:
- Required Education: Completion of Nationally Recognized Community Paramedic Educational Program. Must complete and maintain continuing education or recertification class as required by NC OEMS for re-credentialing.
- Preferred Education: Associates Degree or higher in EMS, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or any other degree with a focus on community/population health or disease education. Completion of Nationally Recognized Community Paramedic Educational Program, Successful completion of NCOEMS approved EMS Instructor Methodology Course
- Required License: North Carolina Paramedic certification, UMBC CCEMT-P or equivalent Critical Care certification, IBSC Community Paramedic certification within 18 months of hire, North Carolina driver’s license or must procure one within 30 days of employment unless an out-of-state commuter. Must have at least two years of satisfactory driving experience and be at least 25 years of age. Must meet insurance guidelines, current status in Healthcare Provider BLS, ACLS, PALS or PEPP ITLS or PHTLS, AMLS or GEMS and CIT or equivalent training within 12 months of hiring.
- Preferred License: National Registry Paramedic, IBSC Community Paramedic certification. NCOEMS Level I Instructor, UMBC PNCCT or equivalent pediatric critical care certification.
- Required Experience: Four years of full time active paramedic level primary EMS or Critical Care transport service experience or combination thereof.
- Preferred Experience: Five years of full time active paramedic level primary EMS or Critical Care transport service experience or combination thereof.
