Qualifications Required for All Positions at Mission Lutheran School

1. Be Christian by affirmation of faith and example.

2. Have a clear understanding of the distinction between Law and Gospel.

3. Be an active member of a Christian church.

4. Meet current Background Check and Employment History Verification provisions as directed by the state of New Mexico (8.3.3 NMAC)

5. Have a current certificate showing training in first aid and CPR.

6. Be in good health and pass all health requirements for licensing by the state of New Mexico.

7. Have up-to-date knowledge of child development and how children learn.

8. Be able to relate to children and accept each as a unique child of God.

9. Show a willingness to grow both spiritually and professionally.

10. Have a good self-concept.

11. Be flexible and able to adapt to change.

12. Be capable of managing a group of children.

13. Be able to work well and communicate with parents.

In addition, the following qualifications apply to specific positions within Mission Lutheran
School:

All Elementary Teachers shall:

1. Have a bachelor's degree or master's degree in elementary education or education or be willing to actively pursue such.

2. Have a Lutheran Teacher Diploma or be willing to complete the LCMS colloquy.
3. Have demonstrated capability of developing lesson plans and implementing an age-appropriate program for the children in her/his classroom following the mission and policies of Mission Lutheran School.

4. Have demonstrated the capability of working well with other teachers and the
Administrator.

Job Description for Teacher

Our mission:

Mission Lutheran School educates, equips, and prepares the whole child using God’s Word, solid academic curriculum, and relevant experiences for the purpose of continuing education and Christian life.

In accordance with the statement above regarding Mission Lutheran School, the Teacher shall:

1. Pray for the program, staff, and children at Mission Lutheran School.
2. Under the guidance of the Administrator, plan, implement and evaluate the curriculum in accordance with the mission and philosophy of MLS.
3. Keep a written plan of daily class activities.
4. Set up and maintain an age-appropriate classroom environment.
5. Attempt to meet the needs of each child.
6. Keep up-to-date developmental records of children in the class.
7. Report to parents about children’s progress a minimum of two times per year during scheduled conferences and/or at parent or teacher request.
8. Provide written guidelines and teaching plans for substitutes.
9. Give guidance and direction to teacher assistants and volunteers.
10. Be aware of and comply with all personnel policies adopted by MLS.
11. Attend staff meetings and functions of the education program.
12. Take part in professional and spiritual growth activities.
13. Keep all records as required by the New Mexico Licensing Authority.
14. Comply with all New Mexico state annual requirements for continuing education and keep official records of these hours in MLS office.
15. Attempt to ensure that every child is making adequate yearly progress and document such progress through assessments, observations, standardized tests and/or report cards.
16. Observe the environment for security and take appropriate action when necessary.
17. Comply with all MLS policies and procedures.
18. Perform all other duties as assigned.
