The Scrum Master is responsible for leading, planning, organizing, facilitating and managing the Agile activities and practices throughout the solution delivery lifecycle to support product teams in delivering enterprise technology solutions. Collaborates with the Product Owner(s), Product Manager(s), and Directors in their efforts to manage the backlog and guide the team while facilitating a healthy team dynamic with respect to priorities and scope. Manages product(s) of moderate complexity and enterprise-scale impact. Organizes and monitors teams of medium to large size, across various roles.


Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee product teams to ensure sprint backlogs are well- managed, commitments are reasonable, stories are actively swarmed, sprint goals are consistently delivered, and quality and performance expectations are met.
  • Ensure product teams understand the business context, product vision, user stories, and sprint goals.
  • Develop and negotiate team working agreements, effective user stories, acceptance criteria, and a clear definition of done.
  • Oversee product teams in self-organization/management, cross-functional collaboration, team dynamics and interpersonal skills.
  • Protect product teams from interruptions, manage risks, and actively remove impediments.
  • Perform ongoing assessments of teams and programs, to provide recommendations regarding continuous improvement.
  • Help teams continuously reflect and improve, becoming more effective in their roles and increasing their predictability, teamwork, and practices.
  • Help develop, lead and/or facilitate workshops around story mapping/breakdown, user & persona creation, value-stream mapping, product road-mapping, project inception, launch, etc.
  • Collaborate with individuals across all levels and roles to educate on agile principles, best practices, and tools to improve workflows and drive successful product deliverables.
  • Manage agile product ceremonies and activities including daily stand-up meetings, product and sprint backlog refinement, sprint reviews, agile board management and retrospectives.
  • Partner with the product managers/product owners to develop release plans and ensure product backlogs are well-refined, prioritized, and -transparent.
  • Assist in dependency management, cross-team test and delivery coordination, and release management/support for agile teams.
  • May require travel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Organizational Impact:

  • Works to achieve day-to-day objectives with major impact on the area of responsibility.
  • Contributes to the development of goals the area and planning efforts (budgets, operational plans, etc.). Manages large projects or processes with moderate impact on the achievement of sub-family results. Work is performed with limited oversight. Typically responsible for coaching, reviewing and delegating work to lower-level professionals.
  • Provides measurable input to new products, processes or standards in operational plans in order to implement operational objectives.


Leadership & Talent Management:

  • Typically responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees within job area.
  • Typically responsible for managing major/complex projects at this level, involving delegation of work and review of work products.


Knowledge & Experience:

  • Requires deep knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience.
  • Typically viewed as a subject matter expert within discipline. May have broad knowledge of project or program management.
  • Typically requires a university degree or equivalent experience and minimum 6-8 years of prior relevant experience.


Required Skills:

  • 3 years of Scrum/Agile experience with excellent working knowledge of agile frameworks, ceremonies, processes, roles, and responsibilities.
  • 3 years of experience collaborating with business stakeholders to deliver quantifiable business value required.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to build rapport, share findings, and explain tradeoffs to technical and nontechnical audiences alike.
  • Group facilitation skills with a demonstrated ability for constructively navigating conflict. Facilitate conflict resolution while keeping a positive spin on team learning.
  • Excellent leadership and people skills, working with various teams, influencing, and getting buy-ins in various situations, effectively manage relationships (up, down, across).
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, MS Teams, MS SharePoint.
  • Organized, persuasive, encouraging, and motivating.


Required Licensing, Registration and/or Certifications:

  • Professional Scrum Master or Certified Scrum Master credential preferred.
