Job Description

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities

The Operations Assurance organization has an opening for a highly qualified Principal Nuclear Facilities Specialist to support the Conduct of Operations division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary assignment includes assisting facility and project management within high hazard facilities with development of CONOPS culture founded upon specific hazards presented.
  • Guide facility, project, and other company personnel concerning expected performance of company policies, directives, and established work processes.
  • Exercise judgment within level of responsibility as a CONOPS representative while allocated to a facility, project, document or procedure review team, or other working groups as directed.
  • Ensure facility is prepared to support work on a daily basis and that projects comply with applicable.
  • MSTS policies, programs, and procedures.

  • Coordinate and track surveillances, in-service inspections, and maintenance. Access buildings, conduct walk-downs evolutions, monitor human performance throughout routine daily operations. This may include observations of Authorization Bases and abnormal operation of installed facility structures, systems, and components in support of facility activities to ensure applicable requirements are met (i.e., Standard Operating Procedures [SOPs], DOE Orders, etc.).
  • Initiate warnings and other notifications.
  • Ensure DOE and MSTS line management are informed of all events which could affect the health and safety of site personnel or the public.
  • Acts as a Derivative Classifier.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in field related to the position or equivalent training and experience, plus at least 9 years of related experience, which included 3 years' experience in :
  • Nuclear operations or nuclear maintenance such as those found at a DOE nuclear facility, commercial power plant, or US Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program. Conduct of Operations (DOE O 422.1), Nuclear Maintenance (DOE O 433.1B), Transportation & Packaging (DOE O 460.1C and 461.1B), and Quality Assurance requirements (DOE O 414.1D); or

  • High explosives handling and operations; or chemical handling, storage, transfer, and controlled release activities. Conduct of Operations (DOE O 422.1), Transportation & Packaging (DOE O 460.1C and 461.1B), and Quality Assurance requirements (DOEO 414.1D).
  • Experience working with requirements-based systems in areas such as facility operations, maintenance, and / or radiological.
  • Must maintain highest levels of confidentiality when dealing with proprietary information and sensitive situations when required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and MS Outlook are required.
  • The primary work location is the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, NV.
  • Work schedule is Mon - Thurs (4 / 10) (subject to change).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment / education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, "Personnel Security". If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, "Counterintelligence Evaluation Program."

    Annual salary range for this position is : $117,270.40 - $178,838.40.

    Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
