Graphic Designer

Summary: The Mississippi Children's Museum (MCM) is seeking an entry level Graphic Designer to join our marketing and communications team. This position is ideal for a passionate designer with a strong eye for visual storytelling and a desire to contribute to meaningful work that inspires children and families. This position will assist in creating engaging and visually compelling content across various platforms to promote museum programs, events, and exhibits for both Jackson and Meridian locations. The Graphic Designer will report directly to the Director of Marketing. This is a full-time position.

Key Responsibilities:

Graphic Design

· Collaborates with the marketing team to design print and digital materials, including flyers, newsletters, posters, and promotional campaigns for both locations.

· Assists in maintaining and evolving the museum's brand identity, ensuring consistency across all communications.

. Creates engaging visuals for museum exhibits, events, and outreach programs that appeal to children and families.

. Supports the development of materials for community outreach, donor relations, and educational initiatives.

. Assists in preparing files for print productions and liaise with external vendors as needed.

. Manages multiple design projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and ensuring high-quality results.

. Provides creative input and solutions to enhance the museum's visual presence.

Photography & Media

· Serves as one of the museum's photographers, capturing high-quality images for marketing, promotion and archival use.

· Edits and organizes photographs, ensuring they align with the museum's brand and style guidelines.

· Properly stores, backups and catalogs media files to ensure easy retrieval.

· Other duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing.

Qualifications & Competencies

· Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field, or equivalent work experience

· Proficiency in design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

· Strong portfolio showcasing creativity, technical skills and an understanding of design principles

· Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce polished, high-quality work

· Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to take direction and incorporate feedback

· Knowledge of design for both print and digital mediums

· A passion for creating family-friendly and educational content

Preferred Skills:

· Familiarity with web design and tools such as Adobe XD, Figma, or similar platforms

· Experience with motion graphics or video-editing software (e.g., Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro)

. Knowledge of photography or illustration is a plus

. The ability to develop innovative designs that capture attention and engage the audience

. Skilled in juggling multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines

. Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders

. Willingness to take on new challenges and learn new tolls or techniques as needed

Hours of Work:

· Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Weekends and after-hours for special events, as needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $34,000.00 - $38,000.00 per year
