About the Agency:
The Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration is the primary agency responsible for State government financial and administrative operations including employee payroll, vendor payments, employee insurance, construction, maintenance, and protection of State buildings in the Capitol Complex, financial information management systems, management of the State’s vehicle fleet, and numerous other related activities.
About the Position:
- The Accountant II is a second-level position focused on processing Accounts Payable billings and Invoices.
- This role requires a deep understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ability to adhere to DFA policies and guidelines.
- The position involves examining, analyzing, and processing accounts payable transactions to ensure accurate financial reporting. Review and analyze invoices to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
- Accurately input financial data into the MAGIC accounting system.
- Communicate effectively with departments to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to accounts payables.
- Ensure all accounts payable transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Follow established processes, systems, practices, and regulations to perform work, conduct research, and make evaluations and recommendations.
- Maintain proper supporting documentation for all accounts payable transactions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must have professional and technical accounting knowledge, particularly in accounts payables, as well as proficiency in the MAGIC accounting system.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are essential.

- To excel in this role, you will need a strong background in financial and accounting practices, particularly in invoicing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial statements, and reporting.
- Ideal candidates will possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to multitask effectively, excellent organizational skills, proficiency in both verbal and written communication, a high degree of accuracy, the ability to handle confidential information with discretion, and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
