About the Agency:
The Mississippi State Department of Finance and Administration, Office of Insurance has been established to manage insurance needs for the State’s employees and teachers. The wide range of insurance needs are met through the following programs: the Mississippi State and School Employees’ Life and Health Insurance Plan, Workers’ Compensation Trust, State Property Insurance and Tort Board.
About the Position:
- Seasoned professional Accountant responsible for performing advanced professional accounting work that is wide in scope and complex.
- Employees at this level apply advanced accounting and financial theory to develop and implement Statewide accounting policies, procedures, and systems
- Ensure integrity, accuracy, and control of data; and control the expenditure of funds.
- At this level, employees have extensive knowledge in multiple processes, systems, practices that cross all relevant business areas and have Statewide impact.
- Work at this level requires working under the guidance of Statewide accounting policies and includes uniquely complex issues with many unknowns and significant risk to the State.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 4-5 years of experience and/or appropriate certification.
- Previous State Agency accounting experience, to include experience using MAGIC.
- Previous insurance experience; Health, Property and/or Tort.
What You'll Need to be Successful:
- To be successful in this role, the incumbent will need financial and accounting expertise, including but limited to invoicing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial statements, and reporting.
- Candidates should have competences such as strong interpersonal skills, multitasking, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, high degree of accuracy, ability to handle information of a confidential nature, and analytical and problem-solving skills.
