Position Summary:
The Assistant Deli & Meat Manager position works directly with the Deli & Meat Manager, with a focus on Meat & Cheese, to maintain, grow, and run a successful team, ensuring excellent customer outcomes, effective team leadership, a positive and safe work environment, organized and efficient operations, a visually appealing space, sound financial outcomes and the production and packaging of high-quality foods.
Specific areas of accountability include customer service, onboarding and training, shift supervision, support of general operations, safety and sanitation, purchasing, merchandising, and financial duties.
Location: 622 Selby Ave, Saint Paul, MN 55104
Schedule: Current shifts available may vary and can include day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours to meet department needs. Flexibility required to meet business needs.
Qualifications:
- Customer Service: Proven ability to provide excellent customer service and experience, utilizing feedback and knowledge to find solutions to customers' issues promptly and efficiently, maintaining a professional demeanor even in challenging situations; ability to seek feedback from customers to continuously improve the customer experience
- Food Service: Direct experience with food preparation including oversight of quality and safety
- Training and Development Skills: Ability to coordinate, and deliver effective training; skilled in explaining information in a clear and understandable manner, using various methods and resources to facilitate learning based on individual needs; ability to seek feedback and adjust strategies
- Communication: Proven interpersonal skills for effective and professional interactions with staff, managers, and other departments; ability to communicate departmental and organizational goals, policies, and changes clearly to staff, ensuring everyone is on the same page; effective communication of department needs and ideas to leadership

Preferred Qualifications:
- Retail Experience: Experience working in a fast-paced grocery retail setting
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with natural foods industry, meat, seafood and cheese products strongly preferred
- Team Leadership: Supervisory experience including hiring, training, coaching, and providing feedback to support team development
- Financial Acumen: Demonstrated experience working within a budget, limiting costs, managing inventory, and achieving product margins to maximize revenue and contribute to financial goals; proven ability to achieve outcomes that support departmental goals
- ServSafe Certification
- Microsoft Excel: Proficient in Microsoft Excel including ability to navigate spreadsheets and familiarity of basic functions, such as copy/paste, calculate sums

Physical and Working Requirements:
The position involves frequent stationary tasks, along with regular movement within the deli and storage areas. Occasional positioning is required to access both low and high shelving, equipment, and products. The job also entails the frequent movement of containers weighing up to 50 lbs. Assistant Deli & Meat Managers may occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to reach high shelving. Assistant Deli & Meat Managers will utilize various equipment including but not limited to knives, slicers, vacuum sealers, ovens, computers, and printers. This role requires exchanging accurate information in person, over the phone, and through email and other written communication. Assistant Deli & Meat Managers may occasionally work in a walk-in cooler and/or freezer, be exposed to sanitizer, cleaning products, and loud noises, and may be designated as staff to be contacted in emergency situations. Additionally, Managers must have the ability to travel between locations and must meet the Mississippi Market's safe driver requirements. This position requires an individual to be at least 18 years old.
