Mississippi State Hospital (MSH) is a licensed 382-bed state psychiatric hospital accredited by The Joint Commission and located in Rankin County. The hospital’s dedicated patient care staff consists of highly skilled and caring medical professionals, nurses, behavioral health staff, social workers, and support staff who work together to provide patient-centered care on a daily basis. Services provided include : adult and child / adolescent psychiatric treatment, substance use disorder treatment, as well as treatment provided for forensic patients.

Mississippi State Hospital promotes educational growth within the behavioral health field through its many partnerships with colleges who have practicum students complete clinical rotations at Mississippi State Hospital as well as through its accredited psychology residency program. Additionally, Mississippi State Hospital has an accredited psychiatry residency program. Both residency programs match with residents across the country to complete their training requirements at Mississippi State Hospital.
The Behavioral Health Services Director is an integral role and includes the following responsibilities :
- Serving as the licensed psychologist leader for the Inpatient Psychiatric Services (IPS) Division of Mississippi State Hospital which includes clinically supervising the licensed and non-licensed behavioral health personnel throughout the IPS Division of MSH.
- Monitoring behavioral health services’ practices and assessing competencies to ensure standards of services and patient care are met.
- Analyzing areas within behavioral health services to promote continuous performance improvement.
- Participating and leading in formulation, revision, implementation, and interpretation of philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards of behavioral health care to attain and maintain quality and high standards to meet all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Creating and maintaining an environment that will encourage recruitment and retention of employees within MSH by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with hospital staff.
- Collaborating with other MSH leadership to foster an environment whereby quality and process improvement is a constant objective.
