7:00 am - 3:30 pm | M-F | 40 hrs/week | 1 weekend every 4 weeks


RESPONSIBLE TO

Director of Environmental Services and Assistant Directors.


PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION

To make sure the facility is clean and sanitary, neat and orderly, furniture care, floor care, keep all entry/ exits matted, clean, open and clear of debris, . Courtyards kept esthetically pleasing. Maintain and repair a variety of equipment.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Must have the ability to speak and understand English to receive oral instructions, read assignments, keep accurate logs of equipment assigned to specific area and effectively communicate with residents and co-workers.
  • Must conduct self with integrity, respect for others and converses with staff, residents and families in a caring, empathetic manner.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull ( up to) 50 pounds, 25-75% of an 8 hour shift and to walk, stand and reach 90% of the time, and bend intermittently in an 8 hour shift, also lift up to 60 pounds occasionally, includes walking long distances due to size of facility and complex.
  • Must attend in-service programs when offered and demonstrate interest in learning.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility and be able to adapt to changes in procedures and sudden changes in assignments as needed.
  • Must work cooperatively with co-workers demonstrating a flexible and positive manner, as well as a willingness to help each other when interacting in the work environment.
  • Responsible to organize workload to completion in accordance with established policies and procedures including documentation.
  • Reliability and punctuality in attendance as scheduled, following established dress code.
  • Participate in warm-up exercises to reduce the risk of injury and improve job performance.
  • Will be responsible to be aware of the Volunteer Protection Program (VPP) and Risk Management/Safety Program and will adhere to the established policies and procedures within the Environmental Services Dept. and facility wide with regards to job performance and safe operating procedures duties and responsibilities.
  • Responsible for the removal of garbage, AM and PM or as needed; disinfection of garbage containers.
  • The custodian is responsible for keeping all equipment and work surfaces clean, sanitary and orderly using an appropriate disinfectant.
  • Responsible for shampooing of carpets, furniture and matting.
  • Responsible for cleaning of windows, metal folding chairs.
  • Responsible for cleaning of air exchange vents, light fixtures, and brick walls, brass (as needed).
  • Responsible to perform & document routine maintenance on numerous pieces of equipment i.e. electric beds, vacuums, shampoo equipment, & various medical equipment items, (Temp Therapy Pumps, Nebulizer Machines, Concentrators, Lift Chairs, Air Mattress Pumps, Wheel Chairs, Walkers, etc.)
  • The physical demands of this position will require the individual to be able to:
    • Climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding, ramps, using feet, legs, hands and arms occasionally.
    • Kneel and crouch frequently.
    • To stoop and bend frequently using lower extremities and back muscles to access small areas etc.
    • Reach hands and arms in any direction frequently
    • Stand for sustained periods; walk long distances frequently.
    • Push, pull and lift 20-60 pounds routinely in an eight hour shift.
    • Will need to be able to grasp, finger and feel objects to accomplish tasks frequently in an eight hour shift.
    • Use of repetitive motion at times with the use of tools, etc.
    • Will need visual acuity to operate machines, power tools where the job is within arm’s reach to complete tasks.
    • Must be able to speak to express ideas and convey instructions accurately.
    • Must have the ability to hear sufficient to receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound.
    • Worker is subject to both outside and indoor activity/ tasks.
    • Worker is required to function around frail and elderly residents, taking into consideration their possible frailties keeping them safe at all times.
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools and equipment as required for job assignments.
  • Will practice economy in the use of utilities, supplies, and equipment.
  • Will be responsible for the general repair and maintenance in resident rooms and the building which will include but is not limited to:
    • Repair of electrical cords, nurse call light cords and bed control cords.
    • Replacing of light bulbs requiring the use of a 4 to 8 foot step ladder.
    • Repair and maintenance of electrical hospital beds and their accessories.
    • May be involved with snow removal requiring the use of a shovel or broom.
    • Will manually spread Ice-Melt on sidewalks as needed.
    • Will be involved with the manual moving of furniture, office equipment, mechanical equipment and general freight and supplies weighing 50 to 100 lbs.

Housekeeping Guidelines to be followed include:

  • Hands must be washed frequently and especially after cleaning a resident room and before going to the next resident room, after cleaning toilets, after cleaning heavily soiled areas and before and after personal bathroom use or breaks.
  • Appropriate PPE are worn whenever needed to protect the employee from exposure to blood borne pathogens or hazardous substances.
  • All equipment and work surfaces are to be cleaned with disinfectant after each use and all supplies returned to the appropriate storage areas.
  • Isolation precautions are followed as needed:
    • Isolation procedures required in all isolation rooms
    • Isolation linen placed in yellow bags and sent to the laundry area.
    • Isolation garbage is placed in red bags and placed in isolation garbage containers.
  • Walls, drapes and privacy curtains are washed or dry cleaned when visibly soiled. (assist to remove or re-hang).
  • Vinyl floors in resident care areas are dust mopped and wet mopped daily with disinfectant. Use CAUTION floor signs when there is a wet floor.
  • Carpets are shampooed routinely or when visibly soiled.
  • Each individual is responsible for their own clean-up after an assignment is completed.
  • Spills are cleaned up immediately as they occur.
  • Mop buckets and floor equipment are emptied, washed with disinfectant solution, rinsed and allowed to dry overnight.
  • A stack of cleaning rags is obtained from the laundry daily. Cleaning rags and solution used for the toilet are never used for cleaning other areas.
  • Isolation precautions are followed as indicated in established procedures. PPE/Gowns, gloves and masks are worn as indicated by isolation category procedures.
  • The housekeeping & custodial closet/storage areas are kept clean, sanitary and orderly. Housekeeping cart and equipment is stored here after it is cleaned and the closet is kept locked at all times.
  • Any garbage is immediately taken to the compactor.
  • Personal Protective Equipment/ PPE needs to be worn as required, when handling pure chemicals. Chemicals must be original container and labeled, or maybe in (properly labeled) spray bottles.
  • Chemicals must be kept properly stored at all times.
  • Mix chemical solutions as required and per proper instruction using proper protective equipment if needed.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of all resident information and provide privacy by knocking on resident doors and announcing your Department and name before entering.
  • Required to follow universal precautions at all times.
  • Must learn proper use and respect of equipment and practice economy in use of equipment and all supplies.
  • Mixing chemicals together is prohibited.
  • Responsible for seasoning paneling, touch-up furniture scratches, minor upholstery mending and disinfection.
  • Assist in cleaning vacated rooms, moving furniture, heavy personal items and other items; changing of resident mattresses, beds, or equipment.
  • Responsible for the collection of cardboard boxes throughout the building and taken to large containers in SE Bus Garage.
  • Transport supplies to storage areas and as needed; maintain stock items.
  • Responsible for transporting soiled laundry to chute and depositing it into chute on weekends & as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining equipment and to learn repair techniques for numerous and various types of equipment as needs arise.
  • Strip and wax floors as needed; responsible to clean bath-house, laundry & kitchen floors as assigned.
  • Responsible to keep courtyards and outside furnishings, clean organized, plants watered, garbage removed. Walk areas clear of debris.
  • Responsible to keep all entry/exit doors inside and out clear of debris…ice, snow, dirt, leaves, etc.
  • Demonstrates MSLCC’s customer service standards of excellence.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist other environmental services staff wherever needed (during vacation, medical leaves, etc.)
  • Set up and take down chairs, tables, as needed/ scheduled for meetings/events.
  • Transporting of residents by pushing residents in wheel chairs to and from dining rooms and events as needed.
  • Assist in keeping all storage areas organized.
  • Participate in QAPI Studies, Safety Committee and Self-inspections as assigned.
  • Will be responsible to complete MSLCC on-line required course studies- Relias
  • May be asked to assist keeping the outside perimeter of MSLCC all rock areas next to the building esthetically pleasing to the eye. (remove garbage/debris, weeding by hand or spray, trim shrubbery, monitoring sprinkler system, watering various planters, assist with outside furnishing stored in the fall, placed in the spring, maintained, cleaned, monitored for safety issues, positioned appropriately for all visitors and residents to use safely).

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to communicate clearly, follow procedures and document as needed.
  • Must have established mechanical abilities.
  • Successfully pass a drug test, background check, including criminal history, certification registries, and employment history
  • Completion of training as required by Missouri Slope
