RESPONSIBLE TO
Nurse Manager
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION
Responsible for administering medications and provide personal care to the tenants.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Must have ability to read, write, verbalize and understand English well enough to receive oral and/or written instructions, communicate successfully with tenants and coworkers and have an aptitude for working with an electronic medical record system supplying a permanent medical record.
- Must have visual acuity sufficient for reading assignments, identifying medication, completing charting, reading thermometers, gauges, and written instructions, as well as distinguish colors.
- Must have hearing acuity sufficient to allow communication and monitoring with tenants and coworkers. Should be able to use telephone.
- Must be flexible and be able to adapt to changes in procedures and willing to accept changes in hours and assignments as the need arises.
- Must work cooperatively with coworkers demonstrating a flexible and positive manner, as well as a willingness to help each other when interacting in the work environment.
- Must be able to stand and walk, as well as use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms over 2/3rds of an 8 hr. shift to complete duties of this position.
- Must demonstrate a patient and caring manner when working with tenants and coworkers, willing to accept and learn from constructive criticism and refraining from being disruptive to the work environment.
- Must be punctual and dependable in reporting to work as scheduled.
- Responsible to read and write in legible manner and to demonstrate spelling accuracy.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend and squat down intermittently throughout an 8-hour shift; must be able to push and lift up to 45lbs. 5% or less of an 8-hour shift.
- Must be able to remain calm and respond in an appropriate manner under stress.
- Responsible for passing of scheduled medications that are administered on a routine basis and do not require dry calculations or dosage conversion, or determination of need or assessment of tenant. Medications included in the definition may include those administered orally, topically, nasally, instilled within the eye or ear, and metered dose inhaler.
- Responsible for documentation and accounting of all drugs including in #12.
- Responsible to make certain all medications are administered and documented as stated on Medication Administration Record, utilizing the electronic medical record system.
- Will notify the nurse in charge of changes in the condition of tenants or requests of tenants.
- Responsible to provide a safe environment for tenants and coworkers by following all established safety policies and procedures including:
- Awareness of chemical products used and material safety data sheets (MSDS)
- Proper use of universal precautions and infection control policies including good hand washing techniques and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) ie. Goggles, masks, gloves
- Awareness of Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and Risk Management/Safety program and will adhere to established policies and procedures within the nursing department and facility wide with regards to job performance and safe operating procedures
- Must respect and uphold tenant rights in all regards including confidentiality of tenant information and refrain from any action that would be considered abusive physically, emotionally or verbally.
- Must be able to assist with tenant cares as needed.
- Demonstrates MSLCC/VVH customer service standards of excellence.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Will answer phone in absence of administrative assistant.
- Will assist in serving meals.
- Will assist with scheduled activities.
WORKING CONDIDTIONS
A well lighted and well ventilated 64 apartment retirement community with carpeted
or vinyl floors.

- Certified Nursing Assistant
- Completed Level I Medication Training
- CPR certification preferred
- Experience with geriatric population preferred
- Successfully pass a drug test, background check, including criminal history, certification registries, and employment history
- Completion of training as required by Missouri Slope
