WORK HOURS:
40 hours per week; generally Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; Hours are flexible as determined by the Vice President of Resident Services and the needs of the facility. Some off hours may be required as determined by the Vice President of Resident Services and the needs of the facility.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION:
Participates in assessing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating care of residents in the assigned caseload. Participates on the Resident Care Team to promote excellent quality care of the residents. Orientates, assesses, counsels, and evaluates staff on the assigned unit(s) according to facility & nursing policy and procedure.
ESSENSTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Must conduct self with integrity, respect for others and converse with staff, residents and family member in a caring and empathetic manner.
- Must be able to manage and direct nursing staff to effectively carry out resident care.
- Must have visual acuity and the ability to read, write, verbalize and understand English well enough to give and receive oral and/or written instructions and successfully communicate with residents and co-workers and complete thorough documentation on permanent medical records.
- Hearing acuity must be sufficient to communicate effectively with residents, staff, health care professionals and family members; also must hear and speak sufficiently to use the phone on a frequent basis.
- Serves as Nursing Unit Leader on the Incident Command chart as a part of the Emergency Operations Plan.
- Participates in the problem solving process and policy and procedure development.
- Demonstrates integrity, calm manner and respect for others in interactions with residents, family members, employees, outside health professionals and the general public.
- Demonstrates responsible, flexible and dependable behavior in performing duties.
- Demonstrates support of and compliance with resident rights in all regards including confidentiality of resident information and holds staff accountable to those rights as well.
- Must be able to stand 1/3rd of an 8 hr shift, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel up to 2/3rds of an 8 hr shift and stoop, kneel or crouch 1/3rd of an 8 hr shift. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs, at least 1/3rd of the shift on the occasion of assisting with resident care.
- Participates in assessing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating care for residents in the assigned caseload under the direction of the Vice President of Resident Services and the MDS Directors.
- Participates in scheduled resident care conferences.
- Works cooperatively with Resident Care Team members and other departments.
- Responsible to be familiar with professional standards and regulatory requirements and to implement these consistently.
- Responsible to identify areas for improvement and work to make the necessary changes to ensure continued excellence in resident care.
- Conduct QAPI studies as determined.
- Participate in Nurse Management, Nurses, CNA, Department Managers, QAPI, Behavior, and other meetings as assigned.
- Assist residents, their families and friends, etc., to ensure quality care.
- Orientate, assess, counsel and evaluate staff according to facility and nursing department policy and procedures. Apply corrective action as indicated. Complete Skills Evaluations and Job Performance appraisals as assigned.
- Conduct Abuse/Neglect investigations per procedure and complete documentation requirements. Communicates directly and immediately with Vice President of Resident Services according to established procedures and with the President as necessary.
- Encourage staff growth and development.
- Evaluates resident needs and makes recommendations for assignment and staffing patterns.
- Work with Charge Nurse to ensure smooth operation of the unit(s)
- Work with consultant therapists (Physical, Occupational and Speech) to ensure specialized rehabilitation services.
- Work with Pharmacy Consultant to facilitate consistent pharmacologic services.
- Work with the Medical Director, attending physicians, psychiatrists and specialists to provide consistent medical and psychiatric care.
- Work with Mid Dakota Clinic and Sanford Laboratory staff in providing phlebotomy services.
- Responsible to evaluate documentation needed and provided by nursing staff.
- Participate in decision making to determine primary care assignments.
- Work with area Hospice staff to provide consistent care to Hospice residents.
- Assist with Nursing Department Skills Evaluations as needed.
- Complete monthly and quarterly reports for the Vice President of Resident Services.
- Responsible to be aware of the Risk Management/Safety Program and the and the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), to implement the policy and procedures therein and to promote, as well as hold staff accountable to the policy and procedures.
- Demonstrate MSLCC’s customer service standards of excellence.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Make recommendations for equipment and supply needs.
- Work with students from area nursing programs, Health Careers, classes, etc.
- Advise the Vice President of Resident services on resident and staff issues as needed.
- Attend continuing education sessions inside and outside the facilities assigned.
- Represent Missouri Slope to outside organizations as assigned.

- Registered RN with current, unencumbered North Dakota license
- 3 years management experience preferred
- 3 years experience in geriatrics or long term care
