Missouri Southern State University is seeking candidates for a full-time professional staff on-campus position as the Director of Simulation and Interprofessional Education (IPE). The Director of Simulation and IPE is responsible for providing leadership in clinical simulation and IPE. This role will work collaboratively with faculty to design and implement innovative simulation-based and interprofessional learning experiences that enhance student readiness to work effectively in interdisciplinary healthcare teams. The director oversees the operational, technical, and financial management of the Simulation Center and ensures its alignment with institutional and accreditation standards.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide operational oversight and resource management of the Simulation Center.
  • Ensure current and innovative equipment in simulation spaces to optimize learning.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design, implement, and evaluate simulation-based learning activities.
  • Facilitate interprofessional education (IPE) opportunities across related programs.
  • Identify, develop, and provide training opportunities to internal and external constituents.
  • Ensure effective coordination of simulation activities among internal and external constituents.
  • Integrate simulation and IPE into curricula, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards.
  • Develop and oversee curricula leading to attainable credentials within simulation in health-related fields.
  • Provide data-based evaluation of student outcomes from simulation and IPE.
  • As applicable, supervise simulation staff and standardized patients.
  • Maintain and upgrade simulation center equipment, supplies, and technology.
  • Ensure simulation spaces are clean, safe, and functioning.
  • Oversee scheduling, setup, and teardown of simulation activities.
  • Create and organize simulation workshops, conferences, etc.
  • Manage inventory (equipment and supplies) effectively including inventory control procedures and cost effectiveness.
  • Lead strategic planning initiatives for simulation and IPE activities.
  • Prepare and manage annual operational and capital budgets, including grant oversight as applicable.
  • Pursue grant and fundraising opportunities to support the Simulation Center and/or program-specific simulation activities.
  • Maintain documentation of simulation and IPE activities and prepare reports for accreditation purposes (Society for Simulation in Healthcare as well as university and program-specific accreditations).
  • Provide reports and updates on simulation and IPE activities to relevant stakeholders.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Other Credentials

A Bachelor’s Degree in a Health Science or related field is required; a Master’s Degree in health-related field is preferred. A minimum of 3 years of clinical healthcare experience is required. Demonstrated experience in simulation-based training and/or education is required. A current Missouri license to practice in a clinical health-related field is required. Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) is preferred or must be willing to obtain one of these certifications within six months of hire. Experience in interprofessional education is preferred. Evidence of professional leadership experience is preferred. Certification as Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Instructor is preferred or must be willing to obtain this certification within six months of hire.

  • Provide leadership with responsibility, efficiency, and integrity.
  • Possess strong organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Possess strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to build relationships.
  • Proficient in simulation technology, including audiovisual and medical equipment.
  • Knowledgeable pertaining to curriculum design and interdisciplinary healthcare models.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, students, healthcare professionals, and other internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to work independently, with attention to detail, innovation, and timeliness of work production.
  • Ability to proficiently use computers, especially Microsoft Office products and web-based applications.
  • Ability to use (or quickly learn) University data software (Banner) and other software systems.
  • Ability to use small office equipment, including scanners and copy machines.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Requires the ability to smell and taste. The employee must be able to operate simulation equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
