The Admissions Coordinator/Academic Advisor-Nurse Anesthesia Program is responsible for the overall admissions process to the Nurse Anesthesia program, including the production and distribution of print and internet recruiting and application materials, admissions, student records and database management, academic advisement of program applicants, review of application materials, assistance in and coordination of the applicant selection process, post-decision counseling of unsuccessful applicants, and preparation of reports concerning the admission pool. The Admissions Coordinator/Academic Advisor-Nurse Anesthesia Program also assists with graduate tracking and provides support for accreditation activities and training grant activities. The Admissions Coordinator/Academic Advisor-Nurse Anesthesia Program maintains the Nurse Anesthesia web site and ensures all printed materials and the web site are current.
Description of Primary Duties
1. Assists with the recruitment and admission of students to the Nurse Anesthesia Program by overseeing the design, printing, and distribution of print and internet materials related to admissions and application materials and representing the Department at recruiting events and functions.
2. Manages and responds to requests for information about the Nurse Anesthesia Program and prepares annual admissions’ pool reports and graduate data by designing and maintaining the database system in compliance with Council on Accreditation requirements.
3. Ensures accurate communication with program applicants by serving as the primary academic advisor by telephone or in person to all program applicants.
4. Coordinates the applicant selection process by receiving and reviewing all application materials and assisting in and coordinating the applicant selection process.
5. Maintains permanent storage of student records and evaluations, assures completion of all requirements necessary for pre-clinical orientation, including verifying the credentialing of students at all clinical sites, maintains records on each clinical site, and ensures completion of all background check information by students including immunizations, health insurance, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), TB test results, prior to the beginning of clinical instruction.
6. Helps to strengthen re-applications by providing post-decision counseling for unsuccessful applicants.
7. Assists the Program Director and the Department Head to evaluate practice patterns, salary, etc. by continuous tracking of program graduates annually.
8. Provides support for program accreditation and training grant activities by collaborating with the Program Director and the Department Head on the design and production of federal training grants and accreditation activities.
9. Ensures the currency of information accessible on the Nurse Anesthesia web site by monitoring and maintaining the web pages.
10. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Program Director.
11. Helps to ensure the success of the Nurse Anesthesia program by assisting with day to day operations of the program and performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area is required.
Experience: One year of experience in health professions academic advisement is required. Successful experience in working with the public is required.
Skills: Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are required; the ability to work well with others as a team is required. Must be self motivated. Computer skills, including proficiency in database design and maintenance is required. Web development skills are preferred.
