General Function
The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor's teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.
Description of Primary Duties
As a tenure-track principal faculty member in PAS, the primary duties will include teaching, scholarship, and service. Job duties include :
- student instruction in the classroom and skills lab
- student assessment of skills includes history taking, physical examination, procedures, medical documentation, and ability to develop a comprehensive plan of care.
- student advisement
- service to the department, college, university, community, and profession
- support for student research projects
- scholarly activity such as professional peer review presentations, manuscript (clinical or non-clinical) peer-review publications, and collaborative research or grant activities
- one day a week clinical practice activity is encouraged, viewed favorably, and release time is provided
- other duties as the need arises
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook.
Additional Qualifications
The successful candidate must also :
1) be a physician assistant / associate with at least 3 years of recent full-time clinical experience,
2) have earned a minimum of a master's degree in PA studies,
3) be NCCPA certified, and
4) possess or be eligible for MO PA licensure.
