General Function

The Visiting Assistant Professor is a non-tenure track position held by an individual who possesses all the qualifications to be appointed at that rank or who has held that rank at another institution. The Visiting Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor.

Description Of Primary Duties

Primary duties include teaching both lectures and labs of ornithology and lectures in biogeography, and introductory biology or wildlife management, divided among Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters. Additional duties may include undergraduate academic advising and service activities. The expected teaching load per semester is 9-12 contact hours.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook.

Additional Qualifications

Requirements include a Ph.D. in biology or related areas (for example, Wildlife Management), excellent communication skills, and a commitment to teaching practices consistent with the mission of the University.
