One post-doctoral fellow is sought in the area of computer vision, artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning for infrastructure resiliency and disaster response research. The successful candidate will help develop affective computing and deep learning approaches to decouple subject-specific and task-specific features from human sensory such as EMG, EEG, and electronic skins. The developed models are applied to understand human factors in drone operations and virtual reality functions to enhance pilots/inspectors’ performance in infrastructure inspection. They are also applied to the prediction of natural disasters for efficient emergency responses. The candidate will also develop large language models for the retention of workforce knowledges and skills via human-AI copiloting.

The successful candidate is expected to work closely with several full-time technical staff members at the Center for Intelligent Infrastructure (CII, https://cii.mst.edu/research/laboratories/virtual/) – one of ten university research centers at Missouri University of Science and Technology. The CII staff members are specialized in big data and information technology, civil and architectural engineering, computer science and engineering, and mechatronics and mechanical engineering.

KUMMER COLLEGE

COLLEGE of ENGINEERING & COMPUTING (CEC)

Missouri S&T’s College of Engineering and Computing is the largest of three colleges at S&T, accounting for approximately 80% of the total enrollment (about 4,500 undergraduates and 800 graduate students). The college includes more than 170 ranked faculty members who serve in 16 undergraduate programs, all with master’s and doctoral equivalents organized into nine academic departments. The college recently added a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and a Ph.D. in bioengineering, both starting in fall 2024.
