What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Aid Assistant position at Missouri Western State University?
The Financial Aid Assistant assists in the daily operational management of the department including customer service, expenditure reconciliation and administrative support. The Assistant also performs technical specialized duties in the administration of student financial assistance programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Serves as the primary point of contact for students, families, and the general public in financial aid matters.
- Assist students and prospective students with completing financial aid applications and provide guidance in locating additional financial resources.
- Provide excellent customer service to all applicants, their families, and members of the community.
- Compare FASFA application with documentation collected from students; identify and resolve discrepant information; utilize federal data systems to update student records.
- Verify and track student and family income information and tax documents following federal procedures.
- Investigate, interpret, correct, and resolve inconsistent data or conflicting information.
- Prepare student files, ensuring compliance with federal regulations in relation to the mandatory verification of student files.
- Oversee the work of student assistants: monitor timesheets to ensure accurate time reporting; schedule adequate coverage; maintain an accurate record of each student’s federal work-study, ensuring that they do not exceed their eligibility.
- Verify that all departmental payables and receivables are balanced each semester.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Basic knowledge of all federal, state, and institutional aid programs, including all applicable regulations and policies or willingness to learn.
- Ability to provide accurate information to students and families based on established laws and policies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other general office equipment.
- Ability to learn new computer software.
- Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Three (3) years of experience in administrative support or customer service

- Bachelors Degree

Hours of Work
- Standard hours are Monday – Friday; 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required based on departmental needs.
