The Control and Autonomous Systems Engineering Group is dedicated to developing highly complex, reliable space systems with core capabilities in precision pointing, low noise and high-power electronics, firmware, and software. We have the unique ability to take programs from initial concept through full qualification, all within our group.

Position Description

In the Technical Staff role you will be empowered to lead significant portions of space electronics programs that have huge impact for the nation. In this role you combine leadership with individual contributions through all phases of hardware development: requirement definition and functional decompositions, architecture studies, detailed circuit design and component selection, fabrication and assembly oversight, testing, troubleshooting and system integration. You will also be expected to prepare and present technical briefings for sponsors (interim status reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, etc.) You will frequently lead small teams consisting of 3-6 peers or more junior engineers for larger design efforts. Therefore, hands on experience and leadership acumen are critical to the role.

Qualifications

Given the wide range of work in our Group, we seek the following attributes:

  • Minimum Ph.D. or M.S. 5 years of experience or Bachelors 10 years of experience in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or another closely related field.
  • At least 10 years of hands-on experience designing systems crossing the hardware / software boundary.
  • Significant professional or academic experience interacting with the regulations and testing requirements from at least one of the following industries:
  • Aerospace, Nuclear, Medical Device, Automotive
  • Ability to create clear and concise technical and non-technical documents and present them to audiences of varied technical background.
  • Learn and apply technical knowledge quickly and proficiently.
  • Experience leading technical teams.
  • Experience with model-based design for control, software, firmware, or electrical systems.
  • Experience with the full Software Development Lifecycle in a professional setting.
  • Proficiency in at least one low level computer language, preferably C.
  • Experience designing and fabricating PCBs from concept through delivery to customer in one of the following areas: Analog, Digital, Mixed-Signal, Power, FPGA, Single Board Computers.
  • Hands on experience with electronics lab equipment for testing and integration (multimeter, oscilloscope, function generator, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzers).


Additional Qualifications

Exceptional candidates may also have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Experience developing embedded systems for radiation hardened (e.g. space) applications including parts screening, BOM development, electronic design for mitigation of radiation effects, software/firmware mitigation of radiation effects
  • Research experience in a closely related field through to publication in a peer reviewed journal or conference.
  • Experience using an EDA (Mentor Graphics, Altium)
  • Experience using circuit simulation and analysis software (PSpice, Simscape)
  • Experience developing in high level languages (C , Java, Rust)
  • Experience developing in scripting languages (Python, MATLAB, Bash, LUA)
  • Experience developing real-time embedded systems.
  • Experience developing software on top of an RTOS (VxWorks, Xenomai)
  • Experience developing firmware (VHDL, Verilog, System Verilog) to model design, simulate, test, and implement FPGA-based systems.
  • Detailed electronic analysis including worst case circuit analysis, derating analysis.
  • Experience analyzing large data sets in a numeric analysis language (MATLAB, Python, R)
  • Experience developing experiments, hardware, and software for risk mitigation, requirements V&V, diagnosis of anomalies.
