Position Title: Building Principal
Qualifications: Holds at least a Master’s Degree in Education
Hold valid Indiana Administrator’s License that is applicable to the grade level assigned

Supervisor: Superintendent
Job Goal: To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational
development of each student
Essential Abilities:
1. Maintains high ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
2. Develops and maintains a school environment conducive to effective learning
3. Encourages students to maintain high standards of behavior, enforces rules, and keeps accurate records of
misconduct
4. Manages effectively using rules and policies set forth by the school and corporation in a fair and just manner
5. Plans, organizes and directs implementation of all school programs and activities
6. Keeps the superintendent informed of school activities and problems,
7. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum
8. Strives to implement by instruction the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
9. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities
10. Maintains and sends accurate, complete, and correct reports and records as required by law, district policy, and
administrative regulations
11. Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and policies of the M.C.S. Board of Education
12. Communicate orally and in writing using correct English
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Arranges in-service training programs
2. Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educational related purposes
3. Maintains an inventory of classroom supplies and materials
4. Remains alert to any problem or special information about an individual student
5. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the
broad academic and behavioral progress of all students
6. Establishes and maintains cooperative and professional relations with other members of the staff
7. Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars,
conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of high learning
8. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings and reading
professional journals
9. Personnel Responsibilities:
o Personnel supervision and evaluation
o Supervise custodial staff
o Staff assignment and employment
10. Curricular Responsibilities:
o Supervision of Curriculum and Instruction
o ILEARN test results and implementation (if applicable)
o Evaluation of student progress/testing program
o Oversee technology
o Organize and implement summer school
o Oversee curriculum alignment and assessment process including reviews and revisions
o Oversee Special Education in building
o Oversee remediation program in building
o Facilitate school improvement Team/Plan requirements
11. Financial Responsibilities:
o Supervise school finances including extra-curricular accounts
o Assist superintendent in preparation of budget
o Oversee purchasing of instructional supplies and equipment
o Oversee bookstore/book rental
o Oversee payroll
o Oversee fundraising efforts
12. Student Services Responsibilities:
o Facilitate student management procedures and discipline
o Responsible for master schedule and student scheduling
o Oversee Remediation
o Oversee health services in building
13. Community Relations Responsibilities:
o Oversee communications/publications/handbooks in building
o Facilitate public relations/media
o Schedule school facilities use
14. Safety and Security Responsibilities:
o Maintain key control
o Provide for building security
o Prepare and practices emergency preparedness procedures
o Prepare housekeeping/maintenance referrals
15. Oversees building athletic programs (if applicable)
16. Other duties as directed by the Superintendent
Terms of employment:
o Rate of Pay: Salary Schedule of Mitchell Community Schools
o Paid Days of Employment: 220 days
o Conditions of employment as per current Mitchell Community School Board Policy and the current master
contract between Mitchell Community Schools and the Mitchell Education Association
o The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace
throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.

o Job performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with board policy and the annual evaluation schedule
