Employee Type: Regular We’re looking for a detail-oriented cost accountant to join our finance team with a strong background in cost accounting, a keen analytical mindset, and experience working in a job cost environment such as construction or project-based industries.
Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Maintain and analyze job cost data, ensuring accurate allocation of labor, materials, and overhead.
- Monitor and reconcile job cost variances, identifying inefficiencies and recommending corrective actions.
- Work closely with project managers to ensure cost accuracy and proper tracking of project expenses.
- Manage customer billing processes, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing based on project milestones or contract terms.
- Work alongside project managers to ensure proper billing alignment with job costs and contract requirements.
- Reconcile accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding invoices to maintain cash flow.
- Assist in resolving billing discrepancies and communicating with customers as needed.
- Utilize data analytics tools to track job costs, profitability, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Prepare reports and dashboards to support financial decision-making.
- Assist with cost allocation and variance analysis.
- Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency and enhance financial controls.
- Work cross-functionally with finance, operations, and procurement teams to optimize cost management processes.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Support internal and external audits by providing cost data and documentation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, job cost tracking, cost allocation, and variance analysis.
- Ability to analyze and communicate financial data effectively to support cost control and project profitability.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and have experience with data preparation and reconciliation for financial reporting.
- Requires experience with financial accounting systems, including general ledger, fixed assets, accounts payable, and budgeting.
- Requires strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with project managers, operations, and finance teams.
- Some travel may be required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Requires bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field plus three or more years of related experience.
