What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer I position at Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc.?
Powering Precision, Fueling Progress: Mastering Supply Chain Excellence at MEPPI!
MEPPI’s Transportation Systems Division (TSD) is looking for a results-driven Buyer to manage and optimize the sourcing of materials and services for P&C, HVAC production, and Rail Services. This role is essential in maintaining cost-effective, high-quality supply chains, driving compliance, and supporting diversity-focused procurement through DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) administration.
You’ll be at the heart of our operations—sourcing top-tier suppliers, negotiating contracts, ensuring on-time delivery, and collaborating with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure every product and project meets our high standards.
What You’ll Do:
Source Like a Pro:
Identify, qualify, and onboard suppliers that meet MEPPI’s standards for quality, cost, and delivery. Negotiate terms and pricing to ensure the best value across materials and services.
Track Performance:
Monitor supplier performance metrics, ensure contract compliance, and expedite orders as necessary to maintain production schedules. Analyze delivery data and present feedback quarterly using our Supplier Scorecard System.
Be the Connector:
Serve as the critical link between vendors and internal teams, facilitating smooth communications, resolving delays or quality issues, and supporting all production functions within the P&C and HVAC units.
Own the Paper Trail:
Review and verify requisitions and purchase orders to ensure they comply with internal policies and contractual obligations. Analyze specs and market trends to identify ideal procurement strategies.
Read Between the Lines (and Schematics):
Interpret technical diagrams to confirm product specifications and facilitate accurate sourcing.
Solve on the Ground:
Travel to supplier sites to strengthen relationships, resolve issues, and enhance delivery and quality performance.
Champion Compliance:
Administer DBE, Buy America, and state/local sourcing requirements. Track compliance and performance against DBE goals, coordinate reporting, and support vendor evaluation and engagement for major subcontractors.
Drive Improvements:
Support Department Leads and the Supplier Sourcing Manager with process improvements and policy enhancements to ensure best-in-class procurement operations.
What You Bring:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
At least 5 years of experience in purchasing and materials coordination in a technical or industrial environment—or a combination of education and experience. Experience in the transportation industry, especially transit HVAC and electrical/mechanical component procurement, is preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Working knowledge of contract terms and conditions.
- Proficiency in MS Office and ERP/MRP systems.
