Portfolio Mgr Structured Finance (Junior)

Position Overview:   

This individual will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day management of a portfolio of the Structured Finance and Leasing relations of Mitsubishi HC Capital America, Inc. (MHCA). Daily activities will be centered around the monitoring and management of the portfolio including the preparation of credit underwriting memos in support of annual reviews and amendments of existing client facilities. Key areas of focus will be the management of credit risk, the monitoring of compliance, preparation of internal reporting, and the maintenance and monitoring of agent bank relationships.    

This position will collaborate closely with the Structured Finance portfolio management team, the underwriting team, Chief Credit Officer, and sales teams to maintain acceptable credit loss exposure.    

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   

• Have a clear understanding of Structured Finance’s credit policies and operational procedures.  
• Proactively identify adverse client trends and take necessary steps toward positive resolution and minimize credit loss exposure. Determine appropriate risk rating for each borrower while ensuring timely rating changes as needed.  
• Aid in the preparation of trend cards as needed and aid in the preparation and presentation of the quarterly portfolio reviews on a quarterly basis or more frequently as needed.  
• Perform the necessary due diligence in the preparation of credit underwritings in support of amendments, modifications, and extensions of existing clients.  
• Attend bank meetings in person or via teleconference as needed.  
• Coordinate with agent banks to confirm covenant and financial reporting is in accordance with loan document requirements.  
• Work with underwriters to ensure smooth transition of onboarding new business.  
• Assist with the underwriting of new business as needed.   

Responsibility and Decision-Making Authority:   

• Credit assessment, structure, and transaction communication needs to be within company prepared guidelines.  
• Identify adverse trends and report to management team.    

Management/Supervisory Responsibilities:   

• N/A.  

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):    

• Complete memos in support of Client modifications, extensions and waivers within the timing prescribed by the Agent Bank.   
• Provide support for portfolio actions including the preparation of subsections of memos in an accurate and timely manner with an increasing level of autonomy.  
• Maintain systems of record of client reporting, collateral and financial performance and Watch List activity as applicable on a month basis by the 20th day of each calendar month.  

Qualifications:   

• Experience with syndicated credits, including underwriting, structuring, and documentation requirements related to senior secured lending products.   
• Knowledge of credit evaluation, financial statements, and cash flow analysis.  
• Ability to identify potential client issues and raise concerns to management.   
• Understanding of multiple industry dynamics and how economic conditions impact credit quality and structure.  
• Strong computer software skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Salesforce).  
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills.   
• Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities at once.   
• Critical and analytical thinking skills. Detail oriented.

Education and Experience:   

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or economics or equivalent experience.  
• Formal credit training preferred.   
• 4 years’ experience in a commercial lending capacity preferred.

Travel:     

• Limited. Occasional travel to MHCA headquarters, client visits, and industry conferences.  

Physical Demands:   

• Digital dexterity and hand/eye coordination in operation of office equipment.  
• Light lifting and carrying of supplies, files, etc.  
• Ability to speak to and hear customers and/or other employees via phone or in person.  

• Body motor skills sufficient to enable incumbent to move from one office location to another.

The position is (exempt) and the salary will be between $91,000 and $112,000 with an opportunity to earn (a discretionary annual bonus).

The salary range is determined and based on internal equity, market data/ranges, applicant's skills, prior relevant experience and education.
