Position Overview:

Reviews, underwrites, and processes new transactions in private credit (cash flow/M&A), clean energy and technology infrastructure project finance. Assist the Chief Credit Officer, Commercial Finance in formulating company credit policies and procedures. Assist in development and implementation of MHCA’s client account underwriting, portfolio management, and other related processes. Perform other firsthand administrative functions relating to underwriting, documentation, funding, and collateral valuations. Assist in training staff hires focusing on departmental workflows and MHCA underwriting guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Credit

  • Perform in-depth underwriting and financial evaluation of new business transactions within designated single signature authority on a timely basis, with a specific focus on senior debt to private equity sponsored middle-market companies across diversified industry sectors, and clean energy and technology infrastructure project finance. 
  • Actively expand expertise in Private Credit and SDG (Clean Energy/Technology)-related industries & transactions to develop an “expertise” in this business line and develop a similar knowledge base in the various segments of this market (existing and new to MHCA). 
  • Prepare and present initial prescreen memo to credit staff, including financial analysis, and address credit concerns in conjunction with sales staff.
  • Prepare comprehensive underwriting memo for in-house and head office transactions in accordance with MHCA underwriting criteria with appropriate recommendations to the Chief Credit Officer – Commercial Finance, and senior management regarding transactions exceeding single signature authority.
  • Coordinate with third party resources as part of the due diligence and documentation processes including field auditors, appraisers, and external legal counsel.
  • Coordinate with sales and credit to onboard new clients (including establishing initial funding and operating procedures) and determine appropriate reporting requirements.
  • Perform necessary administrative reporting, organization, and implementation of internal contracts in relation to the global portfolio risk management.
  • Interact with the Operations team to assure that the documents reflect the actual approval and commitment stipulated in their sign-off of the transaction. 
  • Proactively monitor client financial condition and identify any adverse trends to senior credit management. 
  • Provide timely support to MHCA new business origination efforts.
  • Provide training and support continued knowledge of governing laws within the United States relating to perfection of MHCA security interest. 

 

Reporting

  • Support the Portfolio Management team with ongoing review and reporting on the MHCA portfolio.
  • Review risk and collateral relating to MHCA investment risk and provide reporting, recommend underwriting guidelines relating to industries and types of collateral and risk ratings.

 

Miscellaneous

  • Define, develop, implement, and report on credit policy and procedures.
  • Develop junior-level credit analysts.
  • Provide superior customer service to both internal and external customers.

 

Responsibility and Decision-Making Authority:

  • Act independently; Decision making within Company policy.
  • Single Signature Credit Authority within MHCA credit guidelines.

 

Management/Supervisory Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of corporate / commercial finance industry, both in credit and portfolio management.
  • Excellent corporate finance, credit analysis, financial modeling, and underwriting skills.
  • Ability to underwrite corporate and commercial finance products, including private credit cash flow loans and infrastructure project finance transactions.
  • Extensive knowledge of structuring, underwriting, and documentation practices related to senior secured cash flow loans and infrastructure project financing. 
  • Critical thinker that can look “out of the box” for solutions.
  • Adept at working with and presenting to senior level executives.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong computer software skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Team player with a positive attitude.
  • Self-starter.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years’ related experience with a comparable financial institution, including strong structuring, underwriting & documentation experience in Private Credit (cash flow, M &A) and Infrastructure Project Finance (Clean Energy and Technology).
  • Strong understanding of financial statement/projection analysis and credit underwriting principles.
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Business, or similar degree (MBA preferred) or equivalent experience.
  •  Related work experience preferred, including:
    1. Completion of credit training and/or financial management program with a bank or finance company.
    2. Industry experience in Leveraged Finance, Private Credit, and Clean Energy and/or Technology Infrastructure Project Finance.
    3. Good client relations/interaction/presentation skills.

Working Hours:  

  • Hours may vary and require overtime work depending on business needs.

 

Tools and Equipment Used:  

  • Personal computer, scanner, copier, phone and other typical office equipment.

 

Travel:  

  • Some travel to client meetings and conferences on an as needed basis.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Digital dexterity and hand/eye coordination in operation of office equipment
  • Light lifting and carrying supplies, files, etc.
  • Ability to speak to and hear customers and/or other employees via phone or in person.
  • Body motor skills are sufficient to enable incumbent to move from one office location to another.
