About the role:
The Buyer / Planner is responsible for the timely procurement of goods and services necessary for the company's operations. This role focuses on coordinating with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of parts, managing inventory levels, and maintaining data integrity within the procurement system. The Buyer will work closely with internal departments to align procurement activities with production needs to ensure smooth supply chain operations and mitigate risks to the continued flow of production.
What you will do:
- MRP interpretation, release of PO's to assigned suppliers and communicate supplier feedback with respect to material delivery timing, quantity, expedites, and past due status to appropriate parties.
- Ensure an uninterrupted material flow for assigned commodity/suppliers in support of the Master Production Schedule.
- Update database and MRP systems to ensure data integrity.
- Reporting of components availability in regards to:
- Manufacturing shortages
- New Product Introduction
- Engineering Order implementation
- Manage departmental targets in regards to:
- Purchase Order Management (past due PO's)
- Supplier delivery performance (pick up date, fill rate, apply rate, delivery date)
- Inventory levels ($/weeks/turns), safety stock ($), and exposure to obsolescence ($)
- Continuously surveys assigned commodities/suppliers for changes to their business model that may affect the timing of deliveries. Variations to contractual agreements, lead-time, minimum orders, lot sizes, etc., are followed by MRP system maintenance to reflect appropriate modifiers.
- Work closely with Production Control, Manufacturing, and Material Control/Receiving to ensure inventory record accuracy through requesting cycle counts, performing top level Bill of Material Analysis, and development of plans to prevent recurrence of problems. Attend meetings as required and as needed to support effective and efficient communication between departments.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned.
When & Where:
Office Environment and Manufacturing Shop Floor.
40 hours per week. Expected Travel 5%.
What you need to have:
- Bachelor's degree
- 0-3 years of experience
- A positive attitude and proactive approach to challenges and tasks.
- Ability to work well with others both inside and outside the company.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Access and SQL
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with customer service focus
- Strong decision-making skills.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while working in a fast -paced environment.
What would be nice to have:
- Purchasing experience in a distribution environment
- Experience in New Product Introduction and Engineering Order Management.
- Exposure with International Suppliers.
- Background in Material Planning Function and Inventory Management.
- Experience with a Manufacturing Environment.
