About The Role

The Engineering Manager leads the development, validation and launch of new products. Responsible for providing technical direction to Engineering staff to complete projects on-time, within budget and to quality and performance requirements; with a focus on mechanical systems (structural/sheet metal, assemblies, motors, hydraulics etc.). Reviews, corrects, and approves designs for release to production, through technical knowledge and deep engineering experience regarding the application of the design and its related components and systems. Champions the mentorship and growth of the engineering staff.

What You Will Do

• Lead development of new product designs
• Lead and oversee design activity on products and systems to meet Product Spec, in compliance with internal and external requirements (ANSI, UL, AMSE, ISO, CEN, etc.). Oversee design reviews and approve/release designs (drawings, BOMs etc.) via change notice (Windchill) process. Provide leadership to direct reports to achieve project targets.
• Team management and mentorship
• Manage and support direct reports for expenses, travel, vacations, sick days, training etc; conduct mid-year and annual performance reviews. Build team mentality, developing good team player attitudes, communication and organization skills. Mentor and grow staff by creating development plans for Engineers, championing their success.
• Project Communication / Interface Cross functionally
• Communicate project status, design details and prototype status with cross functional teams such as product managers, manufacturing, service purchasing and directly with suppliers. Support finding new suppliers. Communicate to upper management when required on project details.
• Periodically hands-on prototype assembly and testing.
• Project Management
• Work with Project Management team to develop schedules, resource allocations, budgets and project requirements. Estimate durations of engineering tasks from small to large projects. Approve the purchase of test vehicles, test components, developmental tools, software, and other items needed to complete the design requirements.
• Technology / Industry
• Keep up to date with engineering technologies and stay informed on happenings in the industry. Understand the 'why' of what we do and make engineering decisions that are in the best interest of the overall business.

• Hybrid position
• Standard business hours; with occasional evening calls

Qualifications

What you need to have:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or similar)
• 10 plus years relevant experience with 3-5 years supervising direct reports
• Experience in Engineering best practices such as root cause analysis (FTA, 8D), design for manufacturing, FMEA, Design of Experiments, GD&T etc.
• Experience in new product development
• Experience approving designs, drawings, BOMs and Engineering Change Notices (via CAD and PDM systems)
• Working well under pressure handling multiple priorities
• Team player and great communication skills
• Self-starter and solution oriented
  
  

What Would Be Nice To Have

• Experience with Agile/scrum product development methods / Project management certifications (PMP, Agile/Scrum etc)
• Experience in the automotive and heavy machinery industries with structural components, hydraulics, mechanical assemblies etc
• Working knowledge of the design and testing of electrical components (motors, batteries, controllers, harnesses, etc.)
• Advanced degree or certification

The salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $160,000 annually. The specific salary for a successful candidate will depend upon, among other legitimate factors, education, training, and/or experience.
