Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. in Orlando, Florida, is looking for a Product Design Engineer - Systems.


SUMMARY


The Product Design Engineer - Systems supports the development of new products for aftermarket gas turbine systems and components, including system solutions involving the gas turbine, its auxiliaries, and control functions. This role focuses on the applying to system engineering principles to execute design activities, conduct feasibility studies, and perform verification and validation tasks to enable broad product deployment across multiple gas turbine frames and models. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, high-quality products that meet business objectives and system requirements.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


The Product Design Engineer will have the following key responsibilities:


  • Execute assigned tasks within the product design lifecycle, from initial feasibility studies to final design validation.
  • Develop new product solutions for gas turbines, auxiliary systems, and control logic, ensuring alignment with defined requirements and standards.
  • Participate in the creation of test plans, conducting and reporting on integrated test and analysis activities for gas turbine systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and manage product requirements using the PTC Codebeamer platform, ensuring traceability and compliance with the Design & Development process.
  • Prepare Service products, Design Standards, and other documentation necessary for product implementation and turnover to production teams.
  • Conduct technical feasibility studies to evaluate new product concepts, focusing on operational and technical viability.
  • After validation, turnover design information to the relevant design teams so that they can execute design implementation on future opportunities.
  • Support ISO 9001 audits and compliance efforts, adhering to 002851-DD Design & Development standard operating procedure where applicable, while fostering continuous improvement where needed.
  • Make suggestions for product and service improvements to enhance customer satisfaction with Mitsubishi products and services.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and other communications to support internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance technical knowledge and skills relevant to gas turbine systems.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Be available for work after normal working hours, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, reporting any unsafe activities to management and/or Human Resources
  • Actively participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals, contributing to a positive team spirit.
  • Communicate effectively with subordinates and management at all levels.
  • Protect confidential information by not communicating, disclosing to, or using for benefit of third parties.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Some overnight travel (expected 5 to 15%) by land and/or air.
  • Maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity at all times.
  • Must be permanent resident of the United States due to export control restrictions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION

  • Education: MS [preferred] or BS degree in Computer Science, Controls, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university, or a minimum of eight (8) years directly related work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of work experience in design for power plants or gas turbines (some work credit may be given for MS or PhD degrees based on the relevancy of course and related project experience).
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as industry reports and technical journals. Ability to write technical reports and correspondence including customer reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to customers, clients, vendors and other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform necessary calculations to satisfy job requirements.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to make judgment decisions based on specifications or technical requirements.
  • Computer Skills: Advanced personal computer skills including graphics (Visio, etc.), Math Lab, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access), etc.


Other Preferred Qualifications

  • Cross functional experience and fundamental knowledge in gas turbine operation, auxiliary systems, and control logic principles.
  • Proven track record of managing New Product Development processes, requirements, and design validation.
  • Functional experience and fundamental knowledge in systems engineering discipline and its principles.
