The Transportation Supervisor at Mitsui Chemicals America is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily Import, Export, and domestic shipping activities, controlling and maintaining accuracy of shipments and proper documentation, negotiating freight contracts, and controlling freight costs. Position is the main operational interface with Freight Forwarders, brokers, and other Agents. Position is also major backup for the department’s major inventory operation.
Essential Job Functions:
Implements the MTP and Budget
- By adhering to the MTP and Budget.
- By making decisions in authorized areas.
- And by working as a team.
Manages Logistics Shipping Operations and Cost Control:
- By managing MCA’s day-to-day shipping activities involved with import, export, and domestic. This includes: - Managing relationships with outside FTL, LTL, FCL, LCL, drayage, and other specialty carriers and forwarders to secure the best transportation rates and services to meet MCA shipping needs.
- Managing relationships with outside brokerage firms for import and export brokerage activities.
- Managing relationship with warehouses and plants for shipping and receiving operation per MCA standards.
- Ensuring compliance with import and export rules and regulations, such as ISF, Export control, HTS, etc.
- Ensuring compliance with hazmat domestic and international shipping rules and regulations.
- Coordinating with MCA warehouses and planning teams for inventory availability for customer orders.
- Ensuring on-time delivery performance and supervising coordination with customers and agents if issues arise.
- Supervising staff performance to ensure adherence to job standards.
- By controlling freight cost. This includes:
- Organizing and negotiating quarterly and annual contracts with all FTL, LTL, FCL, LCL, drayage, and specialty carriers.
- Tracking and approving freight costs to carry out effective cost control.
- Providing freight quotes for Sales and MCA Agents for new and existing customers and recommending shipping routes if necessary.
- Working with service providers and TTC (3rd party freight bill payment firm) to ensure proper logistics invoice payment process.
- By managing special customer requests, such as ASN, bar code labels, etc. implementation.
- By providing intercompany import, export, and domestic shipping trainings.
- By overseeing carrier claims filing for freight damage during transportation.
- By supervising any transportation related VOC (Voice of Customer) and CAPA completion and implementation.
- By providing support to other intercompany department’s shipping needs if requested.
- By issuing USMCA certificates, FTA certificates, COO (Certificate of Country of Origin) to customers.
- By conducting logistics projects to improve operation efficiency and meet business demand.
- By coordinating with internal and external audits.
- By composing and updating SOP’s to daily transportation operation.
Backup Job Functions:
- Provides backup support to key operations in inventory management (demand planning and inventory reconciliation, etc.)
Essential Job Requirements:
Working Conditions
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate (i.e., working in a business office with computers, printers, and telephones).
- The Staff Member must be able to travel on business or work beyond normal business hours as necessary.
- Can be hybrid in NY office or Remote, but core working hours not compatible with PST.
Minimum Qualifications Needed:
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and/or government regulations in English.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in English.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of Managers, Staff, clients, customers, and the general public in English.
- Strong written & verbal communication skills.
Other Skills
Must be able to use a computer and such applications as Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel.
Experience and Education
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have supervisory skills and management experience.
Salary : $80,000 - $90,000
