SUMMARY:
The supervisor manages the settlement & finance team in the organization, in order to ensure the entire operation of financial activities including billing/settlement of physical and financial trading activities, cash management, margin and collateral management by having close coordination with other members in the division and the company.
The supervisor also takes initiatives to standardize its operation across commodities, prepare proper documentation such as procedures/manuals/protocols for its operation, and train/educate team members and others across the organization if needed. Its responsibility includes overall support to manager and CFO by independently handling operational matters such as related systems and external portals, coordination with banks and security companies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise the energy commodity settlement team for Natural Gas, Power including ISO(ERCOT, PJM), Crude and RNG/Biofuel, prompting monthly settlement and related secondary expenses (transportation costs, brokerages, etc) timely and accurately.
- Take initiatives on Cash Management with a solid understanding of standard payment terms of each commodity/counterparty, regular cash conversion cycles or other cash requirement, and manage withdrawal/deposit of funds from in-house banking.
- Manage cash/stand-by LC collateral posting with exchanges/ISO such as ERCOT, NGX in a most cost effective way.
- Analyze financial and settlement data, train direct reports in Treasury role, and implement process improvements to optimize financial cost, increase operational efficiency and reduce errors.
- Lead financial controls and compliance frameworks, ensuring compliance with internal policies, industry regulations, and audit requirements. Proactively identify opportunities to enhance controls, mitigate risks, and optimize financial operations.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop direct reports, ensuring they acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to execute settlement and finance operations effectively. Foster professional growth to enhance team capabilities in processing transactions, reconciliations, and financial reporting with accuracy and efficiency.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with Treasury, Business Development, and Risk Management to design, standardize, and automate operational workflows, incorporating process restructuring to improve efficiency and scalability for both new and existing business activities.
- Provide support to the Settlement team as needed, developing the knowledge and expertise to assist in settlement operations.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of cash flow management, liquidity planning, and treasury operations, ensuring sufficient funds for settlement and financial obligations. Experience in managing bank transactions, payment processing, and reconciliation to maintain accuracy in financial records.
- Ability to execute the billing/settlement timely and accurate, and ability to solve settlement-related issues. Understanding of industry practices across multiple commodities (ie. Natural Gas, Oil, Power, and related products), including market structure, contract details, and settlement process.
- Ability to design and standardize operational processes for new business initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth implementation.
- Ability to supervise multiple team members and maintain effective communication across the organization
- Ability to work independently with reliability and accountability, managing various accounts related to responsibilities. Proficiency in third-party software used by the company, such as Allegro, Oracle-NetSuite, and other applications necessary for settlement and finance operations, with appropriate training
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years of Treasury experience is required
- Settlement experience in energy trading industry is preferred
- Finance degree or equivalent related work experience preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Fluent verbal and written skills in English.
