We’re a community-driven communications agency for changemakers, powered by social justice. We’re a small, mighty, diverse and fully remote team that believes we can use our communications expertise to make a difference in our communities. Although this is a remote position, for this role, we’re looking to build our team in the San Diego area only.

COMPENSATION & CULTURE

  • Salary for all director-level positions is $100,000.
  • We offer these outrageously awesome benefits, a four-day work week and a paid winter break between Dec 25 and New Years.

  • YOUR ROLE

    As a Communications Director at Mixte, you will have a vision for leveraging public relations and digital community building to connect communities, drive social impact and increase Mixte’s visibility as a communications agency focused on changemakers. As part of the company’s leadership team, this role will report to the Vice President of Communications, while partnering closely with the other Directors and collaborating daily with Account Supervisors and Strategists.

    LEADERSHIP

  • Engage in financial, operational and HR conversations as part of the leadership team.
  • Lead approximately 8 accounts and develop trusting, long-term relationships with clients.
  • Use your emotional intelligence to foresee and respond to client concerns.
  • Lead a team of highly skilled communications professionals to activate on projects.
  • Collaborate to develop solutions for necessary processes and team needs.
  • Find technological solutions to day-to-day challenges.
  • Engage in advocacy actions that matter to you and build relationships within your local community.
  • CREATIVE WORK

  • Define measurement models for project success and review analytics regularly.
  • Push the creative envelope and encourage the team to see their creative work as catalysts for social change.
  • Ensure all work meets Mixte’s standard for quality-of-work.
  • Oversee the development of communications deliverables that align with client and Mixte strategic plans, including but not limited to :
  • Mixte’s own Momentum Model framework for social justice communications.

  • Campaign strategies.
  • Messaging frameworks.
  • Audience personas.
  • Creative assets (videos, gifs, photography, social content).
  • All forms of written content.
  • BUSINESS GROWTH

  • Cultivate and earn new business for the company.
  • REQUIREMENTS

    This role requires that you are established and located in the San Diego area. Don’t meet every one of our other requirements but have most? No problem. We encourage you to apply anyway.

  • Located in the San Diego area and involved with the local community.
  • Understanding of homelessness and experience working on housing and services.
  • Experience working with immigrant and refugee communities.
  • At least 7 years working at a communications agency leading client accounts.
  • At least 7 years implementing public relations strategies and leading PR teams.
  • Previous experience and comfort working 100% remotely.
  • History of developing and implementing strategic communications plans.
  • Exceptional communication and public speaking skills.
  • Outstanding leadership, program management and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in Asana, Slack and Google Workspace preferred.
  • Multilingual, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Vietnamese preferred.
