The CMM Operator/ Entry Level Programmer is responsible for operating the CMM, analyzing CMM reports, verifying CMM data with alternate mechanical inspection techniques, and completing inspection reports while ensuring all parts meet quality standards required in the aerospace and defense sectors. The candidate will show aptitude and willingness to learn CMM programming.
The candidate will also be capable of using manual machines like drills and manual milling (optional).
Assemble components by examining connections for correct fit, fastening parts by press fitting, riveting, etc.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating CMM: Open programs and Follow instructions on how to fixture and align CNC machined parts within the CMM. May troubleshoot the CMM program and equipment as required.
- Analyze and verify CMM reports: Use knowledge of blueprint reading, GD&T, and mechanical inspection techniques to verify data collected with the CMM.
- Collaboration: Work closely with CAM programming, Quality Inspectors, and Machinists to convey information in CMM reports.
- Quality Assurance: Perform inspection and testing to ensure products meet quality standards and specifications. Complete inspection reports on products manufactured in the facility or purchased products.
- CMM Programming Trainee: The candidate will begin to learn to program the CMM and will create CMM inspection programs for various CNC machined products.
- Inspection Criteria: Review blueprints and specifications to establish correct inspection criteria following best practices.
- Documentation: Write detailed inspection plans, including CMM fixturing setup.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to industry standards such as ISO, AS9100, and GD&T.
- Continuous Improvement: Familiarity with Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
- Experience: 0-2 years of related experience in CMM programming.
- Technical Skills: Basic understanding of CNC machining, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), quality inspection processes, and mechanical inspection techniques.
- Soft Skills: Effective communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
- Computer Literacy: Proficient with Windows-based computing, able to use Excel and various inspection software. Able to use or ability to learn SolidWorks and PC-DMIS
