Co-Occurring Disorders Specialist

Behavioral Health Services – ACT Team

Hourly Pay Range: $26.24 - $39.60

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Integrated Services Manager for Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), the Co-occurring Disorders Specialist is responsible for providing or facilitating the provision of co-occurring disorder treatment to consumers who have a substance use problem. Duties include implementing services in the recovery and treatment plan for each recipient under clinical supervision, ensuring evidence based best practices are utilized, and promoting recovery. This role is also responsible for providing wrap around clinical case management and substance use treatment services to ACT team consumers.

Job Duties

  • Clinical Case Management. Provide direct case management services to help the consumer successfully live in the community. Include brokerage of services outside of ACT team, regular collateral contacts of providers, and others involved in the consumers' life.
  • Substance Abuse Assessment and Treatment Planning. Conduct individual substance abuse assessments at intake and routinely thereafter to consider relationship between substance use and mental health symptoms. Assess and track consumers' stages of change readiness. Collaborate with consumers to identify recovery goals.
  • Rehabilitative Services. Work in close collaboration with the consumer and their natural supports to engage in psychosocial rehabilitative services to develop and enhance the consumer's independent living skills, to include Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills development.
  • Crisis Services. Provide crisis response services to individuals who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis. Interface with county operated crisis services, hospitals, and others as needed.
  • Therapy and Group Facilitation. Utilize Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety, Matrix Model, and other evidenced based substance abuse therapeutic practices to provide individual and group therapy as well as psychoeducation groups to ACT team consumers.
  • Documentation. Complete clinically sound and timely documentation of all services rendered on behalf of consumers served by ACT team in the Electronic Medical Record. Maintain a productivity level of 75% or greater.
  • Team Education. Provide ongoing education and support to ACT team members to help them better understand substance abuse issues, the interface with psychiatric issues, and best practices in treatment provision.
  • Travel up to 75% within the community is required.
  • Requires being part of a rotation for after hours and weekend on-call services provided by the ACT team.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently authorized to work in the United States.
  • Valid United States Driver’s License and access to a reliable insured vehicle, both maintained throughout employment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or Nursing Degree (RN).
  • At least one (1) year of experience providing services to individuals with co-occurring disorders in the community.
  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheet.
  • Available and willing to be part of a rotation for after hours and weekend on-call services.
  • Willing to travel up to 75% of work time within the community.
  • Able to lift/carry and push/pull up to 30lbs.
  • Obtain one of the following State of Wisconsin licensure prior to hire:
    • Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC)
    • Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor is preferred
    • Substance Abuse Counselor in Training (SAC-IT) may be given consideration, with opportunity to earn hours and expectation of SAC licensure attainment post-employment
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
    • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
    • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
    • Advanced Practice Social Worker (APSW)
NOTE: This original application is open to permanent residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residency in the state of Wisconsin within six months of start date and maintain such residency during incumbency. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
