Job Title: Senior Superintendent – Commercial Construction
Location: Santa Clarita, CA
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Superintendent to oversee the construction of a 12,000 SF single-story CMU building on a 2-acre site within an existing operational substation. This 15-month project requires a hands-on, detail-oriented leader who can manage site activities, coordinate with a small project team, and ensure the successful execution of a design-bid-build project. The Senior Superintendent will be responsible for scheduling, subcontractor coordination, quality control, and safety enforcement while keeping the project on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
On-Site Construction Management:
- Oversee all field operations, including scheduling, site logistics, and subcontractor coordination.
- Ensure construction activities align with the project timeline, maintaining schedule discipline and budget adherence.
- Coordinate earthwork, underground utilities, CMU building erection, and site hardscape development.
- Supervise the installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, ensuring seamless integration with the existing substation infrastructure.
Team Leadership & Coordination:
- Work closely with the Project Manager, Project Engineer, and on-site Safety Manager to ensure seamless project execution.
- Direct and manage subcontractors, field labor, and suppliers to maintain productivity and quality standards.
- Conduct daily site meetings and weekly project updates, providing progress reports to key stakeholders.
Quality Control & Safety Enforcement:
- Ensure compliance with construction drawings, project specifications, and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular quality control inspections to identify and resolve any discrepancies in workmanship.
- Implement and enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies, promoting a zero-incident worksite.
- Work closely with the on-site Safety Manager to conduct safety meetings and enforce job-site protocols.
Stakeholder & Client Coordination:
- Act as the primary on-site representative for clients, inspectors, and regulatory authorities.
- Address and resolve site issues in real time, minimizing delays and disruptions.
- Coordinate with SCE personnel and other site occupants to ensure minimal impact on existing operations.
Project Scope & Features:
The new maintenance and test building will include:
- Workshops, open offices, conference rooms, restrooms, showers, and a breakroom.
- Dedicated parking, site hardscape, and underground utilities work.
- Integration within an active Southern California Edison substation.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in commercial construction, with expertise in CMU structures, MEP coordination, and site development.
- Leadership: Strong ability to lead small, high-performing teams on complex, schedule-driven projects.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of structural concrete, masonry construction, and utility infrastructure.
- Safety & Compliance: Strong background in OSHA regulations, site safety programs, and quality control.
- Software Proficiency: Experience using Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, or similar project management tools.
