Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Design Engineer to join our team. This role will involve working on a range of projects, including residential and commercial low-rise buildings, using timber, concrete, steel, and masonry construction materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop structural systems for buildings, bridges, and other structures using CAD software.
- Analyze and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications to determine the requirements for structural design, including the size and strength of materials, building codes, and safety regulations.
- Conduct comprehensive structural calculations to determine the loads, stresses, and forces that will be placed on the structure, and design solutions that will ensure the safety and stability of the building.
- Prepare and deliver detailed construction documents, including drawings and specifications, that provide contractors with the information they need to construct the structure.
- Collaborate with other design team members to ensure that the structural design is integrated with other building systems.
- Evaluate existing structures to determine if they are safe for continued use and develop plans to repair or retrofit structures as necessary.
- Participate in site visits and meetings with clients and contractors to discuss design plans and construction progress.
- Utilize specialized software to simulate the behavior of structures under different conditions and make design modifications as necessary.
- Work closely with project managers to develop project timelines and budgets and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in civil engineering or a related field and at least three years' experience in structural design of residential and commercial low-rise buildings working with timber, concrete, steel, and masonry construction materials.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in engineering programs such as ETABS & ADAPT as well as AutoCAD.
