MKS2 currently has an opening for a Program Management Office (PMO) Director to join our talented, dynamic team. The PMO Director holds both leadership and management roles in the PMO and is responsible for the overall project management and governance function by providing leadership, coordination, and management of the PMO processes and functions. This position is responsible for various methods and best practices, improving the overall project portfolio management (PPM) maturity across the organization, and tracking and reporting the conformance to plans and expectations of all initiatives.
As an arm of the overall governance function, the Executive Director, PMO is responsible for supporting and enabling the organization's projects, programs and structured work efforts as well as, ensuring that the work of the PMO adds value, is relevant to and aligns the strategy of the organization, and meets the goals set for the enterprise by executive leadership.
PMO Director tasks include:
- Leads the identification and development of PMO roles, team configuration and recruitment appropriate to deliver the agreed-upon PMO goals and objectives
- Leads the identification and implementation (or improvement) of project management processes, methods, tools, guidelines, standards, and a maturity roadmap to establish a stable framework that supports all project teams and stakeholders to improve the probability of successful project delivery
- Leads the identification, implementation, and facilitation of portfolio management processes and governance, including the intake mechanism, to ensure adherence to the enterprise strategy and drive business value
- Develops and manages the enterprise roadmap aligned to enterprise strategic initiatives
- Defines, manages and directs the needed end-to-end PMO work effort, which includes leveraging best practices and techniques in identifying, quantifying and tracking the realization of expected benefits defined in business cases
- Leads the identification, development, implementation, and monitoring of project and portfolio KPIs, metrics, leading indicators, project trending, executive presentations, and portfolio status reports
- Provides ongoing coaching and mentoring to PMO staff and project and program managers
- Builds and maintains relationships with senior leadership and key PMO stakeholders, and acts as a trusted advisor
- Fosters collaboration, strategic alignment and integrated planning and execution across multiple functions in a matrixed organization.
- Regularly reviews and evaluates opportunities to improve the project and program management best practices to achieve higher maturity in PPM
- Evaluate the management of a project and identify the areas (Business Case including Financial Model, ROI, Scope, Staff, Resource, Schedule, Risk and Finance) that either require additional definition or are not being sufficiently managed.
- Stand up program controls upon contract award, and establish workflows to monitor contract performance
- Conduct regular audits of program data to ensure controls are being met; create quarterly reports to communicate each program’s success in meeting program controls; brief executive team on progress, updates, status, and next steps
- Oversee day-to-day responsibilities and activities of direct reports to monitor and control program performance and ensure: timely identification program related risks and issues, and the implementation and monitoring of risk mitigation strategies program-wide; regular internal communication to manage the scope of work, resources, opportunities and risks, and budgets for each contract; the creation and submission of program performance reporting deliverables; relationships with stakeholders and teaming partners are being cultivated and managed appropriately
- Continuously monitor project performance, budgets, stakeholder priorities, and to ensure all contract personnel are focused and delivering on customer needs
- Mentor program managers and team leads, identify career development opportunities for continuous development and growth within the organization
- Provide clear direction and regularly communicate expectations and feedback to all direct reports
- Provide input into program management life cycle processes governing program execution to identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency
- Work closely with MKS2 Strategy and Growth team to identify new opportunities and facilitate organizational growth within program domain and related areas
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in business, administration, or related field required. Master’s degree in business administration is preferred.
Experience Requirements: Minimum of 10 years’ experience in program management; Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required.
