What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, IT Infrastructure position at MLB Network?
MLB Network is looking for a Manager, IT Infrastructure with system knowledge across several technical domains like systems, networking, cloud, virtualization, and security, and have a track record of leading teams that deliver infrastructure at scale. Ability to transform designs ground up and lead innovation in enterprise infrastructure. Structured thinking and problem-solving skills, along with exceptional communication abilities will be crucial for success in this role as you build strong teams that partner with engineering and operations teams across MLB Network.
This is a highly technical hands-on leader who is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, security, and reliable operations of MLB Network's infrastructure, cloud environments, disaster recovery plan, servers, networks, IaaS, and SaaS portfolio. The Manager, IT Infrastructure leads infrastructure planning and projects, manages vendors, and makes recommendations to improve IT infrastructure and environments.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and grow a team of Systems Administrators and Network Engineers to develop and maintain key infrastructure services used across MLB Network.
- Implement modern IT Ops and SRE practices and workflows
- Drive MLBN-IT roadmaps for the next generation of infrastructure. Work with leadership and senior engineers to develop and transform IT infrastructure into compelling products and services. Develop and own future roadmaps for enhancements and scalability.
- Responsible for reviewing and evaluation of major workload issues and work procedures in order to maintain quality standards.
- Responsible for promoting the development and growth of his/her team.
- Drive efforts to streamline and evolve systems, services, tools, and processes in support of optimizing service capabilities.
- Oversee the planning and supporting for ongoing maintenance of IT infrastructure, ensuring minimized down time and all house-keeping jobs are executed effectively.
- Build comprehensive documentation and communications for all IT related systems, changes, and work.
- Implementing reliable and scalable automation solutions using out of box thinking, delivering high quality end user experiences.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 10 years of experience in infrastructure design and architectural leadership and at least 6 years managing technical teams, including experience recruiting and performance management.
- An aptitude for continuous learning and improvement with a history of helping to train others.
- Experienced in Cloud, DevOps, automation, and broadcast infrastructure.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to always seek, lead, and deliver with modern DevOps technologies to provide high quality technical support, leadership, and transformation.
- Expert knowledge of Windows, Linux, and macOS operating systems.
- Strong scripting skills in at least one language (e.g. Python, PowerShell, Bash)
- Strong background in managing and building virtualization environments (e.g HyperV, VMware, Proxmox, Nutanix).
- Cloud architecture skills in one or more clouds (Azure, GCP, AWS) including designing and implementing multi-tenant architectures.
- Experience in patch management and security solutions (e.g. CrowdStrike, Automox, Intune).
- Experience in endpoint management and MDM technologies.
- Having experience in managing costs and implementing cost optimization strategies.
- Deep understanding of data center architectures, networking, storage solutions, and scale system performance.
- Background with Automation and Monitoring platforms, devops practices and configuration Management platforms. (Ansible, Puppet, etc)
- Git, CI/CD, and other development tools.
- Experience with containerization and microservice architectures.
- Experience with backup and resiliency solutions (e.g Veeam, Rubrik).
- Understanding in network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, routing, switching, load balancing, firewalls).
- Understanding of network routing and protocols (EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, Dynamic Routing, VPN technologies, SD-WAN).
- Understanding of video networking and distribution.
- Experience in 2110 networking a plus.
- Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally as required.
- Ability to lift to 25 pounds.
- Possess the manual dexterity to effectively operate keyboard/mouse on computers, edit equipment, etc.
- Possess the visual acuity needed to effectively deliver required work product.
- Possess the auditory acuity needed to effectively deliver required work product.
- Ability to sit, stand, kneel, bend, twist, and turn for sufficient lengths of time in order to effectively deliver required work product.
- Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
Education:
- BS in Engineering, CS (or equivalent experience).
