What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Facility Manager- Baytown, TX position at MLS Transportation, LLC?
We are hiring an Assistant Facility Manager to lead chemical warehousing which supports our customers’ manufacturing plant. This full-time salaried position will report to the Facility Manager and is responsible for achieving safety, quality, productivity, and profitability objectives while assuring our customers receive reliable and cost-effective service. Further responsibilities include regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Oversee the daily operation of all chemical transactions and recordkeeping.
- Daily validation of regulatory information interfaced with the appropriate computer system.
- Communicate a positive/equitable work environment with team members.
- Coach employees using established Team Norms and completing Business Partnership Meetings and expectation reviews with teams.
- Oversee a diverse team’s performance and retention, through coaching and ensuring appropriate employee training.
- Oversee new hire orientation content for all employees and keep employee training up to date.
- Manage safety-related actions and documents, inspections, codes, design layouts, and security procedures.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements by creating and following standard operating procedures.
- Interface with contractors, customers, and official people, including Officers, and Supervisory Inspectors.
- Analyze building productivity and efficiency reports to control and manage direct expenses.
- Manage equipment needs and utilization as needed by understanding trend/business fluctuations.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge of DOT, HAZWOPER, and other topics.
- Responsible for building maintenance inspections, day-to-day concerns, and maintenance requests with follow-up.
- Review other WSI facility methods & keep up to date on safety and operational changes.
- Cultivate and build a LEAN culture through process improvements and measurements.
- Execute cycle counting plans and maintain inventory accuracy to sustain the success of third-party inventory audits.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to respond to requests promptly and resolve issues quickly.
- Ability to lead a diverse workforce; to effectively develop employees and communicate objectives.
- Available during non-standard hours, access to a cell phone, and able to respond to after-hour emergencies.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, and technology equipment including WMS and (RF) Scanners.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge to implement warehouse safety and training programs.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Five years’ experience in managing daily operations of a HazMat Chemical Warehouse operation, preferred.
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations and GHS is preferred.
- Minimum three years of previous leadership experience.
- Minimum three years of experience working in a warehouse environment.
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to use hands and fingers for computer keyboarding, and answer phone calls.
- Ability to communicate via the telephone using speaking and hearing skills.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided by the company.
- Must be able to walk without aid or support for prolonged periods over concrete, gravel, and grass.
- Ability to be exposed to hot and cold temperatures for extended periods of time and safely lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, climb, kneel, stoop, and squat, as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform warehouse tasks for up to 12 hours in a single day.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and uniforms that are provided by the company.
