Responsibilities:

Scope of Work: The MLT Systems Technical Writer (TW) will validate data, update and draft new Item Product (Purchase) Descriptions (IPDs) with the support of the Senior Technical Writer (STW). The TW will report to the STW, who will serve as the onsite supervisor, and to the off-site Program Manager (PM). The normal working hours are flexible as long as the Technical Writer meets the regionally established core hours generally working Monday through Friday between 6:30 am – 6:00 pm CST. The period of performance is projected from start date through September 30, 2025, with an expectation of annual funding for an additional one year starting October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026.

ETSS assists in the acquisition of products and services for federal and military customers. The nature of the products and services ranges from, but is not limited to the following Federal Supply Classes (FSCs).

Technical writing duties are specific and include: The provision of technical writing support services including the completion of IPDs, performing data validation, and providing customer support as detailed below, in support of the Southwest Supply and Acquisition Center’s (SSAC) acquisition and supply items. These services generally include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:
1. Update/Create IPDs including part number verification and market research, and the correction of records between databases that are inconsistent, including updating and validation of existing records in GSA catalog databases such as PICS and WebFlis.
2. Data validation and research free of spelling, technical and grammatical errors when working in government databases.
3. Customer support and clear communication with internal and external customers.
4. Contractor self-management working in a telework environment.
5. Other duties as prescribed in the Performance Work Statement (PWS) or as assigned. ·
- Create new item purchase description (IPD) records and update existing IPD’s as required to include part number verification and market research. ·
- The technical writer’s written product shall be free of spelling, technical and grammatical errors and shall provide clear and accurate descriptions within databases. ·
- Records between databases that are inconsistent will be corrected. The Technical Writer will update and validate existing records for inclusion into GSA catalog databases such as PICS and WebFLIS, and to ensure that information on the FLDF is accurate. ·
- The TW shall have strong communication skills and the ability to interact with both internal and external customers. ·
- The TW will be required to hold certifications in 49 CFR (DOT) “Shipping by Ground” and IMDG Hazmat and will receive online training to attain these certs within the first three months of onboarding. - Other duties as prescribed in the PWS or assigned by the Contract Officers Representative (COR).
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree (BA) in Language Arts, English, Journalism, Engineering or an associated background is required.
Prior technical writing experience or certifications are preferred but not required. Preference given to candidates with previous knowledge or experience related to technical specifications or product descriptions for furniture.
Candidate must be a self-starter and demonstrate an ability to work independently, but within a team environment that includes the Senior Technical Writer in Ft. Worth, TX; the GSA Engineering Services team at that location; and two additional technical writing teams in New York and Missouri.
Preference given to veterans and candidates who are transitioning service members.
Specific/Preferred Requirements:
Candidate must be able to successfully pass a background investigation and achieve a NACI security clearance.
Candidate will be required to hold certifications in 49 CFR (DOT) “Shipping by Ground” and IMDG Hazmat and will receive online training to attain these certs within the first three months of onboarding. Physical Demands:
The position is for remote work in an office or home office environment and daily use of a laptop computer and additional monitors.
Work Environment:
Place of Performance: The place of performance for the Technical Writer (TW) is: General Services Administration (GSA), Federal Acquisition Service (FAS), Engineering Section, Unit 3 - Southwest Supply and Acquisition Center (SSAC), 819 Taylor Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76102-6105. The position supports the Engineering Technical Support Services Section providing technical support services at this location. The position is fully remote, and all technical writers telework one hundred percent of the time at this location. In the event the telework policy changes in Central Office (Washington, DC) for the place of performance (Ft. Worth, TX) at a future date, the candidate would be required to work in-office for one or more days per week.
The TW will receive Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) upon successfully achieving their security clearance, which includes a computer (laptop), headset and potentially other GFE.
