Title: Vice President, Membership
Overview: The VP of Membership is part of our senior executive team who has complete oversight of how the MMA builds membership value, including positioning, benefits, engagement, communications, and the supporting strategies, systems and processes. Most importantly, a successful head of membership will ensure that membership programs are in place to support the MMA’s goal to inspire, build capabilities, and drive business impact through marketing transformation and act as both a source of membership insights to the broader team and as an advocate for member needs and interests. This is a demanding role which will require the successful candidate to quickly move between the distinctive cultures and organizational constructs of our many members while building enduring trust, followership and partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures member retention goal and budget are achieved annually. Collaborates with finance and executive team to execute an efficient and effective membership renewal process including invoicing schedule, renewal templates, communications, renewal meetings, and follow through to payment.
- Account management strategy and oversight of membership lifecycle journey. Establishes processes for new member and renewed member onboardings, team benefit overviews, mid-year check-ins, and other key touchpoints to ensure annual engagement is operationalized.
- Facilitate deeper and broader engagement to extend the value of membership within member companies through regular member conversations with member Main Reps and key contact roles. This includes promoting and garnering participation in: MMA events, participation in the MMA’s communities and working groups, implementing MMA’s tools & research, leveraging MMA’s resources & subject-matter experts, and other activities as relevant to each member.
- Oversee membership communications strategy. Works with Senior Manager, Member Engagement, to ensure a comprehensive content calendar for member communications including emails, webinars, social, and more. Promotes new and existing MMA member resources, programs, and engagement opportunities.
- Oversight of the Membership Engagement Index tool. Ensures tool is always current, metrics tracked weighted appropriately, and new metrics added as needed. Ensures Salesforce dashboard and reporting for MEI is easy to access and assess. Establishes practice of regularly using MEI to inform and prioritize member account management and identify programs most valuable to members.
- Manage various peer groups like Marketers Future Collective and B2B CMO Council designed to foster a tight-knit community of marketing & media executives. Create highly-valuable spaces for cross-industry discussion and dialogue that generate actionable insights for the MMA Global leadership team.
- Maximize contact reach within member organizations by acquiring new member emails and ensuring database is accurate and up-to-date. Work with external vendor partners as appropriate to assess database and take steps to re-engage lapsed contacts, remove bad emails, and establish a process for regular database maintenance.
- Develop and share internally an annual MMA Membership Strategy - a framework for Membership success that positions MMA for continued, exponential growth, and cultivates a member base who are proud to affiliate with our association and who find meaningful experiences within our programs
- Oversight and leadership related to all MMA membership policies (including but not limited to: member dues, categorizations, cancellations).
- Other support activities to positively affect member and prospect perceptions of the MMA including participation in MMA events, dinners, webinars, and other opportunities to get in front of existing and/or potential members.
- Day-to-day management of the Membership Coordinator
Ideal Candidate:
- The right candidate must be able to be consultative, persuasive, and possess a desire to be helpful. Strong written, verbal communication, creative problem-solving and interpersonal skills as well as a collaborative work style. Public presentation skills are helpful.
- Effective organizational skills, such as the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines despite limited notice and excel in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Experience at cultivating followership among a seasoned and tight knit internal team to matriculate into and promote a collaborative work environment, while also having an ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
- Entrepreneurial drive to make things happen and a strong orientation toward growth are both very highly valued.
- A firm understanding of how to develop and execute strategic and operational plans is helpful. Sound financial management and the ability to set appropriate budgeting goals and track against them is essential.
