Summary:
A safety/environmental coordinator is responsible for monitoring and evaluating daily operations and planning procedures to mitigate risks and improve safety regulations. Safety coordinators inspect building premises, individual workstations, as well as common areas to ensure that the arrangements are compliant with federal and state law safety protocols. They also conduct safety training and orientations to promote safety codes for each employee's practice. A safety coordinator also assesses the company's equipment and machinery to ensure its safety for everyone's use.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and minimize hazardous conditions, assist with accident prevention and remediation activities, and administrative support safety department.
- Prepare or calibrate equipment used to collect or analyze samples.
- Maintain all required environmental records and documentation.
- Supply, operate, or maintain personal protective equipment.
- Prepare or review specifications or orders for the purchase of safety equipment, ensuring that proper features are present and that items conform to health and safety standards.
- Verify availability or monitor use of safety equipment, such as hearing protection or respirators.
- Train workers in safety procedures, such as the use of fall protection devices or maintenance of proper ventilation in confined spaces.
- Runs emergency drills to gauge employee readiness.
- Assists with collection of environmental and OSHA required samples for analysis and documents findings.
- Conducting general and contractor safety training.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, or 2 years work experience in the health and safety field is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain OHSA certification is required.
Work Environment:
- Time will be spent on the job site monitoring conditions and inspecting products.
- Time will also be spent in an office setting processing paperwork.
- Job sites may be hazardous or pose serious threats in emergency situations.
- Proper safety gear must be worn at all times.
- Local travel may be required.
- Standard 40-hour workweek applies.
