What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Team I position at MNI Direct?
Perform manual labor to plant, cultivate and harvest nursery plants, trees and shrubs using hand garden tools and equipment (50%) and pull plants to fill orders.
Perform care and maintenance duties for plants along with plant selection (30%), loading and unloading of trucks (10%).
May operate nursery vehicles and/or equipment such as a Front End Loader (5%). Moving liners, potting of plants, and placement of plants in field.
Collection, preparation, and sticking of cuttings. Performing plant care duties to ensure high quality standards are met.
Upkeep, setting up, and improvement of facilities including greenhouses, irrigation systems, nursery buildings, and nursery sections.
Perform plant care duties, such as spacing, jamming, weeding, fertilizing, staking, and pruning plants.
Assist others in learning the proper methods and safety procedures.
Potting crops to meet quality and quantity standards such as applying label correctly to pot, filling containers with correct soil, watering the soil to settle, inserting the proper liners at the proper depth, watering plants after potting, staging potted plants in production space according to specifications, and cleaning up work areas after potting.
Propagation of plants including collection and care of material for cutting preparation, preparation of cuttings, sticking of cuttings, filling of trays and placement in the greenhouse.
Application of pesticides. Clean and keep up chemical application equipment and chemical building.
Movement of liners to and from holding areas and/or greenhouses to potting areas or other holding areas.
Selection and movement of shift up plants to and from holding areas and/or greenhouses to potting areas or other holding areas.
Participating in locating, selecting, and loading plants on wagons and tractors while meeting quality standards.
Staging of plants in the shipping areas, loading, tagging, labeling of plants for shipment, and loading of trucks with racks of plants.
Set up racks and stage racks for shipping; organization of rack storage area. Unload trucks of plants and nursery materials.
Perform winter protection activities such as covering and uncovering plants, moving plants, covering and uncovering greenhouses, and creating shelters with minimum supervision.
Work in a safe manner and participate in safety training, ensure others working with you follow correct safety procedures, and identify safety hazards so they may be corrected.
Maintain and repair nursery vehicles, wagons, hand tools, implements and mechanical equipment including tractor drawn machinery and self-propelled machinery.
Workers may check quantity or quality of work based on supervisor's instructions.
Workers are responsible for maintaining clean work areas, free of safety hazards and perform nursery sanitation duties including picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms and sweeping floors.
Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job.
