Position Overview:
MNL is a full-service ecological restoration company with a mission to Heal the Earth. We provide decades of experience, knowledge, industry leadership and a variety of services and products. Our services range from backyard native seeding to large-scale restoration, bioengineering, and everything in between.
MNL Products division produces 100 species of premium native seed between three production sites across MN. The Equipment Operator & Maintenance Tech will be responsible for equipment operation and maintenance, while also assisting with all aspects of native seed production and farm operations including but not limited to planting, spraying, weed control, prescribed burning, harvesting and seed cleaning. The hiring range is $21-$26/hr dependent on qualifications and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates a variety of equipment, which includes agricultural tractors, self-propelled sprayer/applicator, skid-loader, combine, mowers, among other equipment used for seed production.
- Conducts general farm equipment maintenance.
- Assists with the fabrication and modification of equipment.
- Assists with field work, which includes planting, spraying, weed control, harvesting and seed cleaning.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Agricultural experience, including farm equipment operation and maintenance.
- Formal education in any of the following preferred: Agriculture, General Mechanic or Ag Equipment Service, Natural Resources Related Fields.
- General shop skills - hand and power tools, metal fabrication, welding experience preferred.
- Must be mechanically inclined, this position often requires creative modifying of equipment.
- Experience with herbicide handling and application preferred.
- Must have, or be willing to acquire, a commercial pesticide applicator license.
- Able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, reach and move as needed to complete the very physical aspects of the job.
- Prolonged periods of time on your feet.
- Able to work long hours when needed, including early mornings, late evenings and occasional weekends typical of agriculture; irregular work hours and overtime do not typically occur during the winter season.
- Must be able to work in varied weather conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold.
