Job Summary:
We seek a skilled Cytotechnologist to join our pathology team in Flint, MI. The ideal candidate will perform specialized and technically demanding cytology examinations to determine pathological conditions. This role requires expertise in gynecological and non-gynecological cytology screenings, as well as assistance in fine needle aspiration (FNA) procedures and rapid on-site evaluations (ROSE).
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform accurate cytological screening and interpretation for both Gynecological and Non-Gynecological cytology samples following established protocols.
- Refer abnormal cases for hierarchical review and collaborate with pathologists for further examination.
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating FNA procedures between the Endoscopy and Radiology departments.
- Attend FNA procedures and perform ROSE promptly, providing specimen adequacy assessments to physicians.
- Process and prepare FNA ROSE specimens with proper labeling and record-keeping.
- Properly triage ancillary testing as needed.
- Set up and clean the FNA cart before and after procedures.
- Accurately enter data and results within the laboratory information system.
- Maintain screening workload and quality assurance records.
- Serve as a technical resource and investigate equipment or specimen-related concerns.
- Communicate scheduling or technical issues to operational and medical leadership.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Monitor and manage cytology inventory, ordering supplies as needed.
- Collect data and prepare management reports on technological findings.
- Adhere to infection control and hazardous waste protocols to maintain a safe work environment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in cytotechnology.
- Experience attending Fine Needle Aspirations (FNA) and providing Rapid On-Site Evaluations (ROSE).
- Ability to perform both primary and quality control (QC) screening.
- Certification from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) – Required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA) – Required.
