As a Certified Phlebotomist, your responsibilities will encompass patient care management, organization, communication, drawing blood from patients, ensuring specimen accuracy, maintaining a safe and sterile environment, and supporting clinical staff and patients. You will play a crucial role in the diagnostic process by collecting and processing blood samples for medical testing. Essential Job Duties :
- Patient Interaction : Greet and engage with patients in a professional and compassionate manner. Explain procedures to patients, ensuring they are comfortable and informed. Manage the patient flow to eliminate long wait times and confusion.
- Patient registration : ensure patients are registered in the EMR system and the required documentation is completed. Confirm patient identity and ensure they receive the correct services. Assist patients with answering questions about the registration process and result access.
- Blood Collection : Perform venipuncture to draw blood samples from patients using appropriate equipment and techniques. Ensure the proper identification and labeling of collected specimens. Ensure that the surfaces are cleaned between the patients and the area is tidy and organized.
- Specimen Processing : Prepare collected blood samples for laboratory testing. Verify the accuracy of patient information and labeling on specimens. Prepare the specimens for the lab pick up and ensure a timely hand-off of all samples to the courier.
- Equipment Maintenance : Maintain and clean phlebotomy equipment to ensure a sterile and safe working environment. Perform routine maintenance on equipment and report any malfunctions.
- Communication : maintain effective communication with other employees, security personnel, and relevant stakeholders. Communicate with the site lead and management team about on-site issues or questions and provide the requested reporting in a timely manner.
- Record Keeping : Accurately record patient information, including medical history and test results. Maintain confidentiality of patient data and adhere to privacy regulations.
- Quality Control : Follow established protocols to maintain the quality and integrity of collected specimens and patient health information. Monitor and adhere to infection control and safety guidelines.
- Collaboration : Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care. Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff.
- Training and Education : Stay current with the latest phlebotomy techniques, safety protocols, and industry standards. Attending training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.
