Hourly Rate: $18.43 - $22. 41

Under general supervision, cares, cleans and performs minor building maintenance and routine janitorial maintenance of City buildings and facilities; performs a variety of semi-skilled and manual tasks in the routine maintenance and landscaping of parks, athletic fields, recreational facilities and other landscaped areas; and other related duties as assigned.
Plants, waters, weeds, mows, renovates and fertilizes turf grass; Plants, fertilizes, cultivates, waters and sprays flowers, shrubs and other plants. Assists in planting, pruning, spraying and maintaining trees. Cleans and prepares recreation fields. Repairs park playground equipment. Picks up litter and debris. Operates power mowers and other specialized turf maintenance equipment.
Assists in the installation and maintenance of sprinkler systems. Operates a dump truck to pick up trash, tree limbs and leaves. Delivers refuse to disposal site. Sweeps, mops, waxes and polishes floors. Washes, windows, walls and lavatories and fixtures. Empties trash and cleans waste baskets and trash containers. Cleans and maintains restrooms and other park buildings and facilities.
Locks and unlocks restroom doors. Maintains equipment used in the course of work. Performs minor building maintenance work. Performs other related work as required.
Cross training:
This classification will have the ability to cross train in different disciplines within the Public Works department. Cross training allows employees within this classification to be able to assist in emergency situations when there is short staffing and also allows a path for succession within the Public Works department; creating an environment where employees are knowledgeable and well-versed and also have the ability to promote within the department.
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and cleaning of buildings; parks, playgrounds, recreational areas, and other facilities; Job safety policies and procedures; General safety practices.
Skills and Abilities:
Understand and carry our oral and written directions. Work after hours and on weekends; or holidays and perform on-call duties as necessary. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Clean and care for assigned buildings and equipment. Operate a variety of park maintenance equipment such as mowers, edger and trimmers. Perform assigned tasks independently without close supervision.
SUPERVISION: This position has no supervisory responsibilities and can be supervised by the Senior Building/Parks Maintenance Worker, Senior Public Works Maintenance Worker, the Public Works Maintenance Manager or the Public Works Director.
QUALIFICATIONS: (Sufficient education, training and /or work experience to demonstrate possession of required knowledge, skills and abilities, which would typically be acquired through):
Education and Experience:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent for completion of the twelfth grade.
- A combination of education, experience and/or training which demonstrates the required knowledge and ability to perform the job duties successfully.
Certificates and Licenses:
Must possess an appropriate Motor Vehicle Operator’s License issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles
and be able to comply with current City insurance requirements.
Wage and Benefits Hourly Wage: $18.43 - $22.41 hourly wage paid bi-weekly.

Sick Leave: City provides 40 hours a year of sick leave for seasonal employees.
