This internship partners current students with nonprofit partners to design their own 8-week internship, addressing issues through green projects in Green Infrastructure and Community Development, Workforce Development, Sustainable Agriculture, Public Health, and Urban Forestry. You will create a summer internship with a partner organization of your choice where you will work on a green project designed with the nonprofit partner. The internship will allow you the opportunity to create change, provide valuable service to a community organization, and gain the job skills to enhance your future career in the field while getting paid.
Communities of color disproportionately bear environmental burdens. Without leaders who share the values of those communities, their challenges will remain. MobilizeGreen develops leaders who share the values of the communities most impacted by climate change.
The VirtualIntern powered by MobilizeGreen, is launching the Building Capacity, Careers, & Community Internship Initiative, a cohort intern program that partners with nonprofits and other organizations to place college-level students in short-term, project-based virtual internships in communities across the country. The Initiative seeks to close the widespread “career experience” and “economic opportunity” gap for college-level students from underserved communities by removing barriers and helping them launch their careers through paid virtual internships.
Students will create their own summer internship in collaboration with the University and host site. Internship projects will have to have measurable outcomes reflecting community impact, increase in organization capacity, intern skill development, and more.
The project driven internships can include the following project areas:
- Sustainability & The Environment
- Environmental Justice
- Community Engagement
- Project Management
- Finance & Operations
- Marketing & Communications
- Philanthropy & Fundraising
- Data & Technology
- Other
The internship is paid and requires a full time 8-week commitment, with the internship starting on June 9th, 2025 and ending on August 1st. You will receive ongoing training/professional development opportunities throughout the internship, including webinars hosted by The VirtualIntern every Friday from 1-2:30 pm EST.
