Description
The Compliance & Risk Officer IV plays a critical role in ensuring our operations adhere to all relevant safety, environmental, and quality standards within automotive parts and the business of operating parts distribution centers. This individual acts as a subject matter expert, interpreting regulations and translating them into actionable procedures for the company. This ensures the parts meet industry benchmarks and government mandates. Examples of such regulations include:
- Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the US.
- International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards relevant to the automotive industry.
- Environmental regulations related to material use and production processes.
- US Customs and Border Protection
- US International Trade Commission
- California Department of Toxic Substances Control
- Washington Department of Ecology
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration
- National Labor Relations Board
- South Coast Air Quality Management District
- California Consumer Privacy Act
Responsibilities:
- Technical Documentation and Recordkeeping: The individual meticulously documents all compliance-related activities. This includes maintaining records of test results, material certifications, and production procedures. These documents serve as evidence that the parts comply with regulations and can be presented to auditors or regulatory bodies upon request.
- Compliance Processes and Procedures: This individual will be involved in developing and executing communications and verification processes to ensure parts meet the required specifications and performance standards. The individual will work with engineers and quality control personnel to identify and address any potential non-compliance issues.
- Communication and Training: The individual effectively communicates complex technical regulations and compliance requirements to various stakeholders within the company, including General Counsel, engineers, production personnel, and management. The individual might also develop training programs to ensure everyone involved in the production process understands their role in compliance.
- Staying Updated and Identifying Risks: The Compliance & Risk Officer IV proactively researches and stays informed about any changes or updates to relevant regulations. The individual anticipates potential compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. This proactive approach helps prevent issues before they arise and ensures the company remains compliant.
Key Accountabilities
- Compliance tracking and reporting functions related to but not limited to NHTSA, EPA, CARB ZEV regulations.
- Lead development of internal processes and compile library of regulations and standards.
- Act as the initial point of contact for rules and regulations while working with internal stakeholders to provide accurate and timely solutions to new requirements.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree is required.
Experience Requirements
- 7-10 years of US regulatory or environmental compliance experience
- 5 years of automotive industry or regulatory affairs experience
- Use of intermediate software packages (word processing, spreadsheets)
