SUMMARY

Oversees the daily operations of the production facility, which includes managing employees, production, efficiency, and safety. Directs, plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. Acts as a liaison with Purchasing, Planning, Inventory, Sales and the Order Management Department so that issues are resolved and products are manufactured and shipped on schedule, and as economically as possible. Responsible for designing, implementing, and reviewing the procedures and equipment involved in the manufacturing process. Manages the flow of materials from blending, filling, packaging and transfer to finished goods warehouse.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Directs and coordinates the manufacturing, blending, processing and packaging of products for the organization.


Reviews process schedule plan and production orders to determine staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments for production, warehouse and maintenance personnel.


Reviews requirements / plans and confers with Quality Assurance, Research & Development and Engineering staff to improve or maintain manufacturing processes and the quality of existing products.


Analyzes production processes, schedules, methods, quality control and other data to detect production problems and increase efficiency in manufacturing.


Analyzes workflow, equipment placement, space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency. Researches automation techniques, testing new systems for efficiency and planning factory layouts to optimize production.


Reviews operations and confers with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems.


Act as a liaison between Production and Order Management to provide information to facilitate fulfillment of product orders. Coordinates with Maintenance and Engineering staff to ensure line downtime is minimized.


Assesses equipment, orders new materials as required, coordinates with internal and external maintenance to address plant and equipment readiness, assures that all equipment on site is maintained to a good standard.


Prepares and maintains production reports. Audits and ensures output, quality and performance reports are recorded and analyzed for process improvement. Reviews labor, material and other production costs along with schedules and future requirements to ensure cost-effectiveness of the operation.


Manages budget. Provides information and statistics on performance to Sr. managers as requested.


Maintains up-to-date records to include inspection systems and checklists, and financials.


Keeps abreast of key government health, safety / environmental regulations, assures that they are implemented throughout the facility based on guidance from EHS staff.

Conducts regular site inspections to assure compliance.


Provides coaching and continuous, constructive feedback and general work direction. Conducts performance appraisals and salary reviews in accordance with Company policies. Issues corrective action as necessary. Participates in succession planning.


Provides training and development opportunities for staff. Works with direct reports to establish development plans.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


Manages the Production staff.


Manages 3-4 subordinate supervisors, who supervise a total of 45-50 employees in the Production and Receiving Department.


Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; documenting employee activities; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in manufacturing engineering, systems engineering, industrial engineering or a related field of study and 5-7 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Extensive knowledge of production scheduling, material requirement planning and lean manufacturing principles. Completion of APICS certification is recommended.


LANGUAGE SKILLS


Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers. The ability to speak Spanish fluently is recommended.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS


Maintain a valid Driver’s License.
